Boy Scouts and Parents Enjoy Anniversary Dinner Members of Boy Scout Troop No. 66 and their parents met at the Speedway Christian Church last Monday night for the anniversary dinner of the Troop. The dinner was sponsored by the newly organized Parents’ Council. Mr. Robert L. Ramsay, president of the Council and chairman of the Troop Committee, was toastmaster. The mothers of the Council had prepared a tremendously bountiful supper for the boys in the good old “pitch-in” fashion. Guests of honor included Mr. H. T. Gratz, Scout Executive; Mr. S. L. Norton, Assistant Executive and Mr. H. T. Vitz, Field Executive. This marked the first visit of Mr. Gratz to our Troop since coming to his new position. Mr. Ivan Hanen, presided at a model Scout meeting and a first aid demonstration. A musical program was given under the direction of Mr. Lincoln Northcott and the annual awards, ranging from the tenderfoot badge to the bronze palm were announced. From all reports received, it looks as though our Scout Troop is taking a new lease on life and that we will soon be hearing from it. This last suggestion is not mere wordage for the report has it that the Troop is going to organize its

The most effective of all appeals on the radio is one to the self-esteem of the listener, three Dartmouth teachers have demonstrated in an experiment on the student body. The strength of other appeals, in order, was as follows: Prestige, health, universality, sex, efficiency, economy, beauty, safety and comfort. The maternal mortality rate varies in different states from 25 to 92 per 10,000 live births, 20 states and the District of Columbia having rates of 50 or more. Chiropractically Speaking (By Paul H. Tyner, D. C.) Those who have had the opportunity of observing the many ailments and disorders of practically all parts of the body that disappear under chiropractic adjustments have great difficulty in understanding the lack of knowledge of this great science sometimes displayed by their friends who have not investigated its possibilities so thoroughly.

The friend may have been suffering for days with a cold, flu, laryngitis,, bronchitis, sinusitas, heart, stomach, kidney, pelvic or intestinal ailment and upon being asked “why don’t you see or call Dr. So and So, the Chiropractor” may reply: “I know him. He certainly straightened out my sore back (or stiff neck) in a hurry several months ago, but I didn’t know he could do anything for this.”

Now these people know that chiropractors can free impinged nerves, but the only nerves they ever think about are the sensory nerve fibres that carry messages of pain and discomfort to their brains. They forget that they have motor (causing movement) vasomotor, (constricting or dilating blood vessels,) trophic, (governing nutri-

tion), secretory, (controlling glandular secretions) and calorific, (heat controlling) nerve fibres; carrying nerve impulses from brain to tissue; and that interference to the normal flow rate results in either an underfunction or an overfunction of the part supplied, throwing the body out of that balanced condition we call health. If these facts are kept in mind and the chiropractor is consulted before long neglected functional disturbances result in serious organic degeneration, surgical intervention can often be avoided. Note—Dr. Myrtle A. Tyner may be consulted at the Speedway Office at 16th and Main (over Rosner’s) after 3:00 p. m. except Thursdays. Dr. Paul H. Tyner after 7:00 p. m. At other times they will be found at 410 Odd Fellow Building, Market 3046. (Paid Adv.)

Speedway Theatre Funnier than “Ninotchka” is recommendation enough for any picture, and that is the enthusiastic reports of “Comrade X”, rollicking comedy, with Clark Gable and Hedy Lamarr as its co-stars, which opens at the Speedway Theatre Sunday.

Gable has been given another dashing adventuresome role as his public likes him best, a dare-devil American newspaperman in Russia. But the happiest surprise is Miss Lamarr, as she has never been viewed before, in the role of a Moscow lady street car “motorman.” Miss Lamarr exhibits unexpected talents in every reel. She has rough and tumble fights, one with Gable, operates a street car, drives a tank and shares Gable’s escapades with enthusiasm. They make a picture you’ll love.

The second picture on the program is “Four Mothers,” the latest of the gay, charming “Four Daughters” series. All the favorites of the Lemp family are back in their newest adventure. The story is more dramatic that its predecessors because now the Four Daughters are Four Mothers. Yet it contains much sparkling humor. The cast includes the Lane Sisters, Priscilla, Rosemary and Lolatogether with Gale Page as the four Mothers. Adam Lemp, honest, respected citizen of Briarwood and devotee of Beethoven is played by that grand actor, Claude Rains, his wise sister, Aunt Etta, is portrayed by May Robson. Jeffrey Lynn, Eddie Albert, Frank McHugh and Dick Foran are cast as the husbands who are ideally suited to their wives.
