Well, Well! ! ! No, we’re not starting a sentence off with these words, we’re merely informing you that the Town of Speedway is going tc have some new wells for the Speedway Water Works. Ye Ed. scooped the Town Board office this week and learned that the “town fathers” had been out prospecting for water (in other words, searching for the location for the new wells.) We wonder if they used the old fashioned “divining rod.” Speaking of water, reminds us that we noticed that the tennis courts were flooded in the hopes of a sudden freeze which would make them ideal for ice skaters. We haven’t had much ice skating weather this year, but perhaps the winds will blow right pretty soon and the local athletes will be able to skate on yonder pond before the winter’s over.

Boy, is that Speedway basketball team “hittin’ the hoop.” First off the Sparkplugs give the New Winchester team a beating to the tune of 30 to 18 and then they turned around and took the Zionsville team into camp to the score of 42 to 34. The local boys have been having a tough time of it this year, but it looks as though they’re on the rise now. Our “dandelion of the week” goes to Coach Johnson and his fine team for the splendid way in which they “stuck it out” this year. We certainly hope they have at last “hit their stride.” Good luck, boys. Q Well it looks as though the Boy Scouts will get a break after all. We reported last week that Mr. Hanen had been forced to resign his leadership of the troop. This was a blow to every boy. However, it now looks as though ample leadership will be provided. The scout dads met this week and are planning a forward program for the scouts in Speedway. Several men of good scouting ability have come forward to offer their services and help. Let’s keep up this good work. It’s worth all it costs.

he didn’t. It seems that there is a difference of opinion among the old-time weather prognosticators. Well Mr. Groundhog is a bit confused himself. First off, we have a few sunshiny days and then it “ups and snows.” After that wet snow the other night, we would be inclined to say that the ancient and venerable Groundhog is probably “all-wet.” SEE YOU NEXT WEEK Not So Long Ago Remember those primitive days of motor touring, away back there in 1928. An automobile editor brings up the scene. The tourist setting out for a vacation trip had his running board equipped with a luggage carrier, crammed with suitcases, a couple of spare inner tubes, a five-gallon can of gasoline and a gallon of motor oil. There was more baggage piled on the front fenders and tied to the headlights and hood handles. Then there were tents, blanket rolls, folding army cots and tent poles tied with rope to the top of the car and around the spare tire. The toolbox was carefully checked before starting, and it was essential to have a can of tire patches and a piece of wire to open the gas lines when they clogged. There was generally a spotlight clamped on the windshield for night driving. There had to be driving cushions for comfort and eyeshades for the driver. And all that primitive stuff only 12 years ago. Well, well! Red Baffling Color Science has just given us a brandnew theory to the effect that red may baffle mind readers. The psychologists say their research indicates that thought transference can be confused by mental images of red things, probably because most people are both stimulated and alarmed by red.
