St. Christopher's Catholic Church Rev. L. A. Lindemann Pastor Sunday Masses: \ 6:00 o’clock 8:30 o’clock 10:00 o’clock (Higti Mass) Weekday Masses 1 ' 7:00 A. M. Daily / Sunday, the first Sunday in the mqnth of January, and the first Sunday in the New Year, is the Feast of the Holy Name and the vigil of the Epiphany. The men of St. Christopher will receive Holy Communion at the eight-thirty o’clock Mass. - Mrs. Frank Medenwald of Speedway City and Miss Mabie Cunningham of North Park Avenue, Indianapolis, drew the lucky, numbers for the blankets last Saturday. Wednesday evening, January eighth, will be the first meeting of the year for the members of the Altar Society. Every old member is urged to come, and every lady in St. Christopher’s Parish is especially invited to come. The place—St. Christopher’s Parish Hall—the time—eight o’clock. Remember, all you folks who have recently moved into Speedway City that St. Christopher is a new parish, and we should all come down and not wait to be personally invited, because we are all newcomers, so to speak. After the business meeting, there will be a social time. Mrs. Joseph Rosner, President of the Altar Society, is Chairman, assisted by all the officers of the preceding years. Father Lindemann delivered a very good sermon at the ten o clock Mass last Sunday. It was especially directed to the children, with a lesson for all of us. Even as Jesus knew the wishes of his parents and according to the. law of the Jews went down into Jerusalem, so should children obey the wishes of them parents, and not have to be told they shall do this and they shall do that. “In the name of Jesus, let every knee bow.” —Nora Bray.
SPEEDWAY THEATRE Exciting entertainment is promised patrons of the Speedway Theatre when “The Mark of Zorro” which stars Tyrone Power in the famous and. colorful title role with lovely Linda Darnell featured opposite him, opens on Sunday for three days. The story of “The Mark of Zorro” revolves around the adventures of a masked night-riding bandit whose sword mark—a jagged “Z” struck terror to every heart in Old California’s most exciting days but whose daring won him the loveliest senorita in the land. Action is the keynote of the exciting film, and a thrilling duel to the death climaxes the adventures of the masked marauder. Others featured in the brilliant supporting cast of “The Mark of Zorro” which is headed by Linda Darnell and Basil Rathbone, are Gale Sondergaard, Eugene Pallette J. Edward Bromberg, Montagu Love, Janet Beecher, Robert Lowery and Chris-Pin Martin. Lew Ayres, Lionel Barrymore and the other Dr. Kildaire characters plunge into another strange adventure in medical mystery in Dr. Kildaire Goes Home," coming to the Speedway Theatre as the second feature Sunday. This time they leave the big city hospital to grapple with disease prevention and a clinic in a town stricken by financial panic, battle prejudice and opposition to cleaning up old wells and other unsanitary spots, and emerge triumphant after detecting and curing a mystery ailment. The new Kildaire picture, which interlards the dramatic and scientific moments with hilarious comedy, including the elopement plan of Lew Ayres and Laraine Day which goes astray in a laughable fiasco, is laid partly in the home town of the young doctor and partly in the clinic established in the neighboring town in an old residence. Failure of the paper mill has rendered almost every resident penniless, hence the clinic. A new doctor is added to the Kildaire group in John Shelton, who plays Dr. Davidson, Ayres’ aid in the clinic project. The cast also includes Gene Lockhart, Alma Kruger, Samuel S. Hinds and Nat Pendleton. RED CROSS SEWING DATE ANNOUNCED Mrs. Harry Hoerger local chairman for the American Red Cross, has announced that the members of the Speedway Chapter will meet for sewing at the Speedway Christian Church Thursday morning, January 23rd.
