I BELIEVE that the church is vital to community life. I believe that neithei business nor government * nor social service workers* nor any other organization could do the work of the church. A man who has had no religious instruction is not an educated man. We may laugh at the Sunday School, but therein lies the cornerstone -of our manhood and our woman* h.T>d. God io as much a part of this life as he is cf the life to come. I do not vision Him as one dwelling in a far-off .place* to bo encountered some day as a stern and frowning judge. I believe that much can be learned about him now. There is a need for religion. Lost of us want our children to be trained properly in our faith. Business has no time to .teach themj Government has no time to teach religion* nor could it do it wisel, if it would* because the paths which lead tc God are so many and so varied. This is the proper function of the church and ihe diffeiulty now is .that the church is struggling to do its dut, against terrific odds which we ourselvc : have raised. '7e are all Looking to the ministry to give us a finer church. They could do it easily if we would give them a finer and more helpful body f laymen and laywomoi. -Elgar A.
