THE NEIGHBORHOOD. ‘ News from the Surrounding Territory as i Given by Our Correspondents, TYNER CITY. Detwiler & Sarber are moving the Kyle grist mill this week. Grinding will begin next week, 1 C. Powell started his saw-mill Thursday. Al Harman had all of his corn fodder threshed this week. Ed:Stover and wife were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Johnson from Sunday till Monday evening. ‘ Remember the Sunday school convention at the U. B. church to-day, Dec.: 5. | A new shoe shop is the lastest. Frank | Banks, proprietor. | Joe Walterhouse and Frank Johnson are on a hunting and trapping trip this ‘ week along Yellow river. | The U. B. church has received its new seats. Wm. Wallace and wife visited in the country last Sunday. Ed Neff and wife took dinner with Geo. Bennett and wife Sunday. . Ben Long, of St. Joseph county, was‘ in town a few hours Monday. A boarder came to stay with Jake Hiba and wife Sunday night. Frank, Jess and George Bennett all made business trips to Plymouth Tuesday. The blacksmiths are busy this week shoeing horses. Another car load of hogs from here Saturday and one for this Saturday. Several of our young wmen were out hunting Sunday and in crossing Pine creek on a pole Ira Kreighbaum had the luck to fall in. It was cnly about four feet deep. Mrs. A. D. Johnson had quite an exciting runaway last Friday. The buggy was demoralized and the harness likewise. The teachers of this township attended the institute at Plymouth last Friday and Saturday and report a splendid time. X. Y. Z. SmiTH. HAMLET. H. M. Buck is night operator at Knox now and will move there. Mr. Taylor, auditor of the Three I railroad, spent a few days with Agent Porter and family. C. J. Danielson, J. A. Bell and W. Bliss have returned home from a trip down the river. They report a pleasant time. W. H. Martin, of Chicago, spent lThanksgiving with his father and brother. He left for New Orleans, where he will spend the winter. | The creamery will be completed in a few weeks. It isa good one and an improvement to the town. f The machinery hall of J. Goppert was sold and moved down to G. M. Veach's place of business. Sister Dicky is back again and is help ing hold a service of revival meetings in i the W. M. church. Finch was taught the art of the Modern Woodmen Tuesday night. Looks as though the boys used him up bad. R. Bertram is here from Knox looking after some ditches. 1 J. Martine & Sons have sold and shipped 240 barrels of sour krout, having 80 barrels more in yet. They will enlarge their pickle factory next spring. . OREGON. E. G. Lancaster and J. P. Dipert were in Plymouth last Monday. Sam Dipert and sons, Wm. H. and J: P. Dipert, expect to build a barn at Kingsbury soon for J. A. Travis. They just finished a house and barn for E. W. Schilling in LaPorte county. They are the enterprising carpenters of this community. : The church at Oregon has closed. It lasted six nights with two accessions. It was quite a surprise to the correg;‘ pondent to learn that Jesse Beagles was married. Well we wish them much joy. but we are rather late on the issue. A. . Beard and lady, Miss M. Miller, spent Thanksgiving at Burr Oak with the latter’s brother. The latest thing out is for the boys to hunt for May buds in November. Try and see if you con catch one. J. P. Dipert got three fine turkeys the day before Thanksgiving at the shooting match in Grovertown and will have them for Yule. The following were visitors at the Koontz school last Friday: The Misses Lulu Beard and Stella Dipert, Mrs. C. M. Wright and Mrs. Samuel Dipert, also Jasper Dipert. A nice time was reported. Ed Kale, of near North Liberty, is the ‘ teacher. i (Clark Phillips has moved back to | Koontz's lake once more. Clark lived here three or four years ago. He now occupies the house recently vacated by P. ‘ C. Woodworth. You are welcome back in this locality. { Supt. Sinclair, of Knox, was visiting the schools of Oregon township last ‘ week. i Henry Peddycord was'in Plymouth last Monday on business. . G. Lancaster will paint the house and barn for E. W. Schilling. The greatest rumor always goes, but that wedding on Thanksgiving waslike a pig’s foot, runs both ways.
Local Briefs. ‘ Wheat touched the dollar mark in To- | ledo last week. : Mrs. Lizzie Place, of the Island, still continues to be quite poorly. ‘ Charles Cudney has been making some substantial improvements on hiss property purchased of Amos Atwood some time ago. | J. H. Gregg is making arrangements for moving his stave factory from LaPaz to Bremen, where he will increase his force of men. William Hoffman, of near North Liberty, has -moved to Walkerton and occupies Charles C'udney’s house in the south part of town. The annual Thanksgiving spread for the conviets in Michigan City prison required 850 pounds of turkey, 1,400 pounds of oyster dressing, 2000 sugar cakes, ‘3,000 ginger cakes, 400 apple pies, 12 bushels of apples, 1,900 cucumber pickles, besides large quantities of cabbage, slaw, l coffee, bread and butter. At the meeting of the North Indiana | conference of the M. E. church at Muncie last spring, March 17 was the date i fixed for the conference meeting next 'year. The ministers of the conference i have now concluded that the date agreed - upon is too early, and a petition is being icirculutvd among the ministers of the * conference asking that the date of con- ' vening be postponed two weeks.
