THE NEIGHBORHOOD. flews from the Surrounding Territory as Given by Our Correspondents, LAPAZ Henry Clayton, one of our old and re spected citizens, was found dead by the side of his milk wagon last Friday evening, about six miles south east of La Paz. It seems he had got out of the wagon for some cause, when he fell. He had the whip in his hand. The remains were brought to his home in his wagon. The news caused quite a sensa ion. Ho had been afflicted with heart trouble, and had stated at different

times, that he expected to die thus suddenly. His funeral was preached Sunday at the W. M. church to a very large congregation by the Rev. Sam Gettig, of North Liberty, who was an old and intimate friend of the deceased. His remains were taken to the cemetery near the Lutheran church, in Liberty township, St. Joseph county for interment. He was born in Wyandotte county, Ohio, in January, 1831, being at. the time of his death in the 66th year of his age. He leaves a wife, five children, two sons and three daughters, to mourn their loss. He also leaves one step-son, Lester Hoover, and one step daughter, Miss Nellie Hoover. His oldest son did not get here to attend- the funeral, although he hud a telegram sent to him. Mr. Clayton will be greatly missed. He had an extensive milk route, and was highly respected by his patrons. Mr. Southworth, of Plymouth, was in

Miss Lulu Linville went to Chicago last Saturday to learn telegraphy with her brother John. Mr. Black, of the Walkerton Milling Co., was here one day last week on busi ness with Mr. W. M. Noble. Dr. Holtzendorll has been ill for a few days from h severe cold but is better 1 again. It is said that Rev. M. L. Peter is one of the most skillful croquet players in town. Mr. Steineck, of Bremen, was in tow n Tuesday and put a new tin roof on A. Shafer’s veranda. Rev. D. C. Linville has Liken an agency from Mr. F. M. Ixmjert, of Tee garden, to sell county, township and farm rights for George M. Bates' improved farm gate in Marshall, Kosciusko, Noble and Lagrange counties. A car load of hogs and sheep were shipfs'd from this place to the U. S. stockyards at Chicago last Monday. Billy Bossier intends next week to i start out to buy stock and Hays hr will pay “top prices." Several men are at work in Ixsmard Logan's brick block. The windows have been put in, the floors laid and the lathing is Iwing done by plasterers. Mr. Logan also has some men at work build ing a new kitchen in the rear of his residence. Mr. Brook Bowman. of the Bremen Enquirer, whs in town yesterday after noon. He is a very pleasant and socia bl® gentleman. Curt Brenh. of North Lilmrty, was in town last Sunday visiting his mother in I law. Mrs. Welsh and family. Hr was ar ' companied by his wife and children who I remained a few days, while hr returned Sunday evening. Dr, Al Moore and wife, of North Liberty, attended the Clayton funeral last Sunday. The Rev. Frederick Kale, one of the oldest set tiers of Liberty township, died Thurs day morning at two o’clock, aged 76 years. The funeral will be held from the Dunkard church tomorrow after noon at 2 o clock. Mr. Kale was a high ly respected citizen and a faithful mem ber of the Dunkard church.
