Editor O'Neil has discontinued the South Bend Sunday Herald and will from now on give his attention entirely to his Mishawaka Democrat, which seems to be on a good paying basis. It is now proposed to authorize post masters and their deputies to open let tors, on which no postage stamps have "p a.-cd. to learn the name of the writer, and avoid sending it to the dead letter office. Physicians in hos pitals say that patients on the sunny side of the building recover more rapidly , than on the shady side. . It has been the experience of the editor of the Republican that the very pEyeons whom we have the most high ly fayored, assisted in the affairs of life and honored as best we could, are the very ones who, in an unguarded moment, have sought to do us harm and positive injustice. But such things are common to many persons and we art' very willing to bear our share of the burden Rochester Republican. Human nature -that is, some phases of it is a mighty queer thing to deal with. It is an enigma that puzzles the most experienced men. Sam Small has this to say on news paper sensations: ‘ I have been a news I paper man twelve years, and if I wanted • to get a right square judgment I'd rather * go into a newspaper office than a court of justice. No man whose life is true, pure . and just is afraid of the newspaper! presses of America. They are the best j detective force in the country to-day. They have punctured more shams, and j so far as I am concerned I say take the : bridles off and let 'em go. The only ones that will be hurt will be the shams and frauds.” Chief Arthur, of the Brotherhood, of Locomotive Engineers, seems to be one of the most level headed of the trades union leaders. His advice is generally wise, conservative and for the best interests of both the employer and employe. Chi. f rthur has learned from 'study and experience that violence wins no permanent advantage for the cause of labor. On this question he gives utterance to the following brief but very sensible truth: ••Experience has proved that strikes and lockouts which lead to violence and destruction of property afford no satisfactory relief.” The South Bend Times in its issue of July 7 gives an illustration and interesting write-up of the new Cox duplex perfecting pre. s which it recently pur- ' chased and is now m operation in that splendidly equipp 1 i < ’C. The printing on this press is done directly from the type instead < f stereotyped forms, as is the rule with most perfecting presses. The press is fed from a continuous roll of paper, and both sides of the paper are printed at one time. The press also does the cutting, pasting and folding, delivering 5,000 complete papers per hour.
