Some stave and heading timber is be ing hauled for Gregg's stave and heading factory. Dr. J. E. Denniston arrived home from Fitzgerald, Ga., last Saturday night. He is now preparing to move there. He will have a sale next Thursday, and leave with his family next Tuesday. Dr. Poffenberger is in Fitzgerald, Ga. He left a number of accounts with William Babcock, who put them into the hands of A. K. Row. J. P., L Some of John Houser's family two ' miles north of Lapaz are on the sick । list. One ease of scar’ot fever is reported in 1 Lapaz, that of Miss Maud Goodwin. The venerable David Shafer is reported on the sick list. 1 The Western Union Telegraph Co. has put in telegraph apparatus in the depot < again. 1 Two of Henry Miller's girls are sick with lung fever. Mr. David Johnson, living two miles north west of Lapaz, is reported very ill. Miss Lillie Jester, living in Union township. St Joe county, is ill with lung ( fever. < Your Teegarden correspondent stated ( last week that “the Brethren are still , holding their protracted effort with poor success.” He ought to call “things by , their right names.” The Brethren are not holding a meeting there, but the , United Brethren. He also spelled Mr. Kaufman's name with gh instead of f. Your Tyner correspondent calls the , Brethren the “Progressive Dunkards.” That is not the name of the denomina tion but merely a nick name. The church is legally incorporated according , to law as the Brethren church. V I N Kill! KHSMt. TEEG ARDEN. John Lockwood has gone to Coburg to work. William Brown found his saw that was missed since last June. Bill Hornsby has been on the war path for some time. Lemert & Co. are hauling the rock for I the foundation of their elevator. The constables of Tyner haw been making regular calls at this place for Some time. They always find their friends away from home. The saw mill is running regularly. Dan Gensinger has employed his father-in law to help him in the ex change business. Mr. Genginger will go : on the road selling machinery. F. M. Lemert has built a large ice i house and is waiting for the ice to freeze to fill it. The next dance at this place will be Hn Lemert's hall on the night of Feb. 13th. Lewis Paul, of Walkerton, was at this । place Monday on business. Lemert A Co. are handling bread twice a week baked by Leslie Bros., of Walkerton. Dr. Neville is walking on crutches . again. j T. L. Sidney Bell has his new house nearly completed. Myers A- Jolley are doing the carpenter work. Baz Petticord has purchased a lot from George Garverson and will commence the building of a house soon. Mr. Leehi and also Mr. Pet are going to build an addition to their houses. Rev. Berton, pastor of the M. E. church of this place, closed his meetings last Tuesday night. He will commence an other series of meetings at the Oregon church next Sunday night.
The quarterly meeting will be held at Oregon next Saturday and Sunday. The Hamlet Hay Co, just received their gang plow and engine. It is a fine machine. The sick of our town are bettor at this writing. There is but one case of diphtheria now that we know of. The dreadfulness of liquor is being manifieated by an old soldier of this place who is having snakes in his boots. The sight is enough to make a man afraid to even look in a saloon. D. B. JORDAN. Ths concert given by local talent at Jordan school house Saturday evening was quite well attended, considering the weather. The program was quite lengthy and well carried out. The proceeds are to be used to buy lamps for the house. John Walters is much worse at this writing. Mrs. Sam Thaxson has beerJ^ 11 lagrippe for a few days. Singing has closed at the Pleasant Grove chapel until after the protracted meetings. B. F. Casad visited friends and relatives here Saturday and Sunday. Miss Nora Stover and brother Andy, of near South Bend, visited friends and relatives here a few days last week. David Bradly, of Stillwell, visited Austin Wiley’s, this last week. J. I. B. TYNER CITY. Liss Lemert, who got his arm taken off a few years ago by coupling care in Chicago just received three thousand dollars in cash from the company by a settlement. Miss Hettie Tracy made a short visit in Tvner Tuesday afternoon. John Neff was in town over Sunday with old friends, R. S. Shaffer and J. J. Kreighbaum. Charley Detwiler, of Detroit, Michigan, was home on a visit Tuesday. John Pool, of near Koontz's lake, was in town Tuesday on business. Levi Williams is trading his farm for a stock of merchandise. He intends to go in the store business. I f you want to see a rush just come to Tyner on Saturdays when the Walker ton Independent comes in. They will ask one another if X. Y. Z. Smith is alive this week. Miss Abbie Ackins is visiting her brother, Joseph Burnside, this week. Bill Clark went to Plymouth the other night and forgot to come back till the next day. Marshall county has a suinmei^ivsurt close to Plymouth <q>en winter and summer. Mr. 'Warner hits built him a very large ice house at Koontz’s lake and is filling it with ice. Mias Ida Cudney is lying under the diH-tor's care at present. Mrs. Sam McDonald is on the sick list. Bad colds and son* throats arc raging in this locality at present. Nearly every body is barking like a fox. Frank Bennett made a flying trip to Marion, Ind., Tuesday and made G. F. Jarrell and family a short visit. Edward Stover, of St. Joseph county, was over to Tyner last Sunday evening. Jo English was in town Monday. J. E. Johnson shipped one car load of hogs to Chicago Monday. Westerville accompanied J. E. to Chicago. Corn 22 cents per bushel and you ought to see thoee great big 40 pound hogs coming to market. Henry Ford was in Tyner Monday shaking hands with his friends and old acquaintances. A. C. North, of Plymouth, was calling on the Tyner people Monday. Marshall county has 27 applicants for the county infirmary, to be let next month. This position has been filled by W. E. Bunch for ten years past and he has done well by everylxxiy and now he files his resignation with the auditor of Marshall county. X. Y. Z. Smith. NOONTZ’S LAKE. Elmer E. Koontz has been closing book for Samuel Koontz, Jr., the Globe clothier. Mrs. Barbara Coil, wife of Thos. Coil, has been visiting the family of Daniel Koontz. Tom, as everylxxiy knows him around here, moved to South Bend about three years ago and is doing well. Mrs. Coil left for home last Sunday accompanied by Miss Alta Koontz, who will stay the week visiting. The following are reported to be on the sick list this week: Mrs. Retta Sult, Sam Sult and E. G. Lancaster. The grippe is getting in its work. Your correspondent spoke some time ago about there being another wedding in this locality. We will remind you once more. It is not very far off. We are informed that protracted meet ing will begin next Sunday night at the Oregon church. There are three in the family of James Borst sick with the grippe. For sale, 256 white oak fence posts.
