THE NEIGHBORHOOD. News from the Surroundng Territory as Given by Our Correspondents. KOONTZ'S LAKE. Messrs. J. P. Dipert, F. A. Beard, Harry Beard and E G. Lancaster, also Miss Etta Beard, visited the Libert school, Friday, Dec. 6. Samuel Dipert and son are building a new barn for W. P. Uncapber in Grovertown. Size 25 by 30 feet. Link Davis, of Gordon, Neb., is visiting his sister, Mrs. Samuel Dipert, and other relatives. He has been absent for eleven years and the joy of his meeting was a pleasure to all. Miss Stella Dipert attended the teachers'institute at Grovertown last Saturday. She is one of Starke county’s brightest teachers. Last Saturday evening about 30 young people gathered at the resi dence of James Boost, about three miles northeast, of Hamlet, and enjoyed themselves until a late hour. The occasion was a surprise to their son William to remind him that he was at home again. A very pleasant and sociable time was enjoyed by all. E. R. Monroe, of Tyner, visited the -Oregon sabbath school last Sunday. After sabbath school there was preaching by the Rev. Birton. Sirs. Lillie Fry, of Royal Center, was viMting’^J^ H. Peddycord and other relatives this week. J. 11. Pedd.ycord went to Kosciusko county to visit relatives and friends this week. George Harrison and B. F. Miller will purchase an outfit to drive wells. When in want of any kind of work in 1 their line give them a call. Retsacnal. TYNER CITY. A young dish washer came to stay with Ed Monroe and wife Sunday ; morning. Rev. Riley preached a sermon Sunday for the Maccabees. About fifty in number marched to the church. The M. E.’s are holding their pro traded meeting yet. Several have united with the church. Dick Richardson, of Chicago, visited with bis mother and other relatives, of near this place, over Sunday. Daniel Wilson, an aged gentleman living south of this place by the Bliss ville church died Monday night. His wife is very low at present. Miss Mina Goppert. made a business trip to South Bend Wednesday. The Misses Emma Rinehart and Maud Steele, of Walkerton, visited Seward Rinehart and family last Sunday. I.ink Davis, of Gordon, Noli , is here shaking hands and talking over old times with friends ami relatives; this was bis boyhood home.

Julius Goppert has opened a harness shop in Hamlet and reports good success so far. Arrangements are being made for a Christmas tree at this place. Our Sunday school will furnish a good program. A few of our people attended the Sunday School Convention at Hamlet on Friday of last week. The attendance was small but it was a complete success all the same. Marion Bellinger and wife, of Walkerton visited with Dr. Abner and family last Sunday. Will Uncapber is building a very neat wagon and tool house. Sam Dipert is doing the work. Chase.
LAPAZ. Dr. Hamilton attended a meeting of the B. & O. Surgeons nt Pittsburgh on Wednesday of last week. From there he went to Washington City. He re--1 turned last Saturday. John Harry and his son went to South Bend hist Saturday, where they were the guests of his son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Fair. ' Miss Mary Shafer spent Saturday and Sunday with friends at Plymouth. Hank Slnrson and Clint Clifford, of the Bremen creamery, were in town last Monday trying to use their influence against a creamery in this 1 place. Mr. Matter, of Plymouth, was here one day last week seemingly for the same purpose, Fred Myers shipped two car loads of hogs to Chicago last Monday. Wm- F. Hostetter has organized a writing school which meets in the principal’s room on Monday and Friday nights. He has about forty scholars. The Lapaz Union Sunday school will give an interesting Christmas entertainment on Christmas eve, in the W. M church The Rev. R. E. Kaufman is holding a protracted meeting at the Gilead U. B. church Elder I. N. Miller’s regular'appointments on the county line will be Saturday evening, Dec. 21, also on Sunday at 11 a. m. and 7 p. m. Rev. C. Smith will preach at the W. M. church next Sunday at 7p. m. He is holding a protracted meeting at the Mladabungh church I foi-Kot to mention Inst. week that Mrs. Gregg and daughter Nel lie spent Thanksgiving with her mother, Mrs, Richardson near Tyner. Your correspondent spent last Sunday in the vicinity of Portage Chapel, four miles north west of South Bend. Frank Dean, who spent the summer j ; in Starke county, pressing hay, is home ! again, but expects to go to Chicago. Dr. Al Moore and wife, of North ! Liberty, were in town yesterday. The Dr. was in Plymouth, and Mrs. Moore I met with the sister’s mite society nt A. Shafer’s. Dan Martin, living four miles north I east of Plymouth, was in town a few days ago. He tried to buy Mrs. Fogle’s farm. He offered her $5,000 cash, but the old lady wanted $150.00 more and I ! that spoiled the sale.
