The Band Concert. Au entertainment of merit was given by the Walkerton cornet band in Bender’s opera house, Thursday even ing, to a fair house. The program was selected with good taste and judgmi it and embraced music both classical ami popular. The baud selections were mostly of a high grade of music, some of them bring of the seventh grade. The band demonstrated its ability as a musical organization last Thursday evening in away that, was convincing to every one present. The difficult selections were rendered with siich harmony, skill and smoothness as to be a surprise to many. The band is making excellent progress under its capable instructor, Prof. Walter Snyder, and if it continues to advance at the present rate it will certainly win an enviable reputation as a musical organization. The limited number of the members is the most serious drawback. Their excellent playing doesn’t show to the best advantage. Instead of twelve there should be sixteen or eighteen instruments in the band. It is the in tention, however, to increase the membership as fast as possible. The program rendered was as fol lows: Silver Bell. Waltz, Over the Waves. Russian Carriage Song. lllnsical Act. OldKentncky Home. Polka Geraldine. 'Tuba Solo. My Dad’s the Engineer. Serenade. Moonlight on the Levy. An All Round Thanksgiving Dinner Bronco Pete—Shar’d th’ turkey? Alkali Ike—l set him outside to cool an’ th’ cat et him. Bronco Pete— Whar’s th’ cat? True as Gospel Patronize home merchants when they treat you right, and home newspapers also. Yon can get general news in the large city newspapers, but not the local happenings with which you should keep in touch. A man who knows all about the quarrel with elevated roads in Chicago, but nothing about the commonest happenings at home, becomes as lop sided as a one winged angel.—Muskegon Chronicle. Chicora Story Confirmed Mr. Curran Stuckey, who is now chief of police at St. Joseph, Mich., was in the city yesterday and confirmed the report (hat a portion of the hull of the Chicora lias been found off Stevensville. Our inule was out. .at pasture, a mile away, and our guns needed cleaning. It was twelve nrfles as the crow Ilies to Ilie Colonel's ranch, and yet at half past three o'clock we were there. The fusilade between us lasted ten minutes. It took five minutes more to get the Colonel to subscribe for three extra copies to send East and four nr five to water our mule and tighten the saddle girths. At exactly five o’clock we were down. at. the Kicker office and booking the new subscriptions. Thus, in three hdnrs we cleaned two guns, ran a mile after our mule, rode twenty-five miles anti had a fight lasting ten minutes.
