Dr. Denniston started to Georgia Tuesday morning. A large force is at work on Leonard Logan’s business block. Sam Thomas is having the roof put on bis new house on South Michigan street. Protracted meeting is in progress at the Brethern church north of town. About a dozen of the K. O. T. M went to Lakeville hist Tuesday evening to assist the Lakeville tent in initiatory work. Mrs. J. H. Gregg was the guest of! her brothers in Chicago for about a | week. She returned home last Friday 1 accompanied by her mother, Mrs. | Richardson, of Tyner. Your correspondent was gone from home about ten days. He attended conference at Milford week before last j and then went to Syracuse and North I Webster. He returned home Thursday. The Rev. Landis, pastor of the U. B. church at Plymouth, was in town Wednesday accompannied by his brother of Huntington, Ind. They are talking of buying Ketcham and ; Wilson’s stock of hardware here. Henry Korp who has been at work in Illinois all summer returned home! last Monday. He and his brother ; Andrew have rented W. L. Johnson's! farm south of town. Elmer, four year old son of Henny ' Snyder, living about miles south of ■ town, met with the misfortune of hav ing his right arm broken between the! elbow and shoulder about two weeks ago. The boy was under the wagon ! when the horses started up and one of the hind wheels passed over his arm. Dr. Hamilton set the arm, and the boy is getting along nicely. A union meeting of all the congregations of the Brethren church in St. Joe and Marshall counties will be held at the new church next Saturday begin Ding at 10 a. m. and continuing all day. The tire had gained such headway when discovered that it was impossible to save either the building or the stock of goods, and only the excel I lent work of the citizens saved the surrounding buildings which escaped with slight damages. The Hoffman block and J. F. Price & Co.’s buildings were damaged about $l5O each. W, L. Nelson was insured for S4BB in the Etna, 0. F. Keck, Agt. The building was insured for $450 in the Home, of N. Y., W. E. Gushwa, Agt. MOUNT VERNON. Simon Rensberger’s little daughter Alta is having a genuine tussle with an attack of whooping cough. Jim Martin sold and delivered a lot of cattle to parties near Stillwell last Tuesday. B. F. Rinehart was in South Bend last Tuesday on business. Fire broke out the first of the week on the marsh near the dredge ditch, and burned over a large scope of marsh besides burning quite a bunch of good hay for McCabe Bros. The lire is supposed to have started from an I. I. & I. train. Vernie, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Hurry Wenger is quite sick with a sore throat and mouth. George Sult and family, of Ft. Wayne, are visiting relatives and friends in this vicinity . Mart Miller has altered his house and built a porch along the south end ad I ding quite a little to the attractiveness I of it. i Last Saturday evening while Jesse Rensberger was going toward Teegarden, his horse became frightened and indulged in quite a run away. Fortunately the horse was stopped before any serious damage was done. M. J. Downey, of Logansport, is doing tile ditching for B . F. Rinehart; lie is a splendid workman at any kind of ditching. B F. Rinehart and wife attended a birthday surprise reunion on grandma Steele last Tuesday given exclusively by her children in honor of her 80ih birthday. E. D. Sanders is building an addi tion to his house which will give him quite a roomy house.
Mrs. Jonathan Hoke, of Goshen, visited with her daughter Mrs. Simon Rensberger a part of this ami last week. Nellie Beall was home on a visit with her parents a short time sb.ng. Jolin Sanders and wife and Mrs. Sadie Miller and family, of Mishawaka, attended the funeral of Mrs John Wenger last Tuesday. To those kindest of friends who so willingly assisted me in my dark hours of trouble I extend the thanks which words fail to expr 3ss, and they have only to command me for any favors in return which I can do. She died of typhoid fever, after a short illness, Rev. B. H. Beall preached her funeral, Judge Burson hold court at Plymouth one day this week, while Judge Cupron came here as Judge. Mrs. Judge Burson is visiting in Knox. The women of our town seem delighted with her. Corn husking is dispensed with on account of drouth. Carpenters are still busy here building. Notwithstanding some fifty residences have been built during this season there is a great demand for houses to rent• It is said that Knox has the best hotel accomodations now of any town i north of the Wabash.
