the typhoid fever. Miachel Kangbman is the proudest farmer we have seen in town of late as he is papa of a pair of twin girls. Beu Roberson has purchased the Brown farm of Lemert & Co. Fred Johnson has been visiting Mr. Eaton, an old resident of this place now residing in Kosciusko county. Bert Yockey and wife and William Strang went to Rome City on Ine excursion Monday. C. A. Lemert went to Chicago, Wednesday, to purchase goods. Mr. Messier, of Starke county, was visiting with friends and relatives at this place Monday. Several of the fountains have failed on account of dry weather. Bruce Barber came home show day on one of Barnum's elephants. He thinks home is quite a good place after alt. Miss Ota Burton, of Terre Haute, i who has been visiting here, has returned I to her home. John Barber is raising his house. Longacre Bros, are doing the work. The Menouites have preaching at the church Saturday night, Sunday morning and night. J. E. Myers is on the sick list this 1 week. A. Longacre’s tile mill northeast of this place caught tire Tuesday and burned all his sheds and wood, doing great damage to his machinery. Jack, i TYNER CITY. Mrs. John Sutherlin is very sick at this writing. F. W. Monroe’s baby is Ding Very low with cholora infantum. Dr. Strang is now a citizen of this place, night or day culls will be promptly attended to. A. D. Johnson, Al Harman, J. J. Kreighbaum and Wm. Wallace attended the funeral of George Warner, at Walkerton, Sunday. Do not forget the sale of live stock and personal property at this place 'Thursday, Aug 22. Miss Logan, of Plymouth, was the guest of Mrs. Ella Place over Sunday. Charles Bose, of Walkerton, was in this place Wednesday on business. The Lecture at the M. E. church was well attended on last. Saturday night. They all speak highly of the man. The M. E. church will baptize their members next Sunday, Aug. 18. Look out for Dr. Shaw. He says there is no place like Tyner. X. Y. Z. Smith.

LAPAZ. Leonard Logan bus been quite ill , since Wednesday of last week, but is improving. Elder Peter Hummer is very much wearried over a letter he received from t a lawyer in Chicago and a step son who demands the property back again which he leased to Elder Hummer durt ing his natural life. The Elder > will be 87 years old on the Bth 3 of Sept., and will preach a sermon again on his birthday. He invites all bis ; relatives and friends to come to see f him on that day. i The Rev. M. L. Peter failed to preach in Luther Chapel last Sunday evening, it wedding took place at the house of Joseph Haas, about 4 miles northeast of this place. The contract ing parties were Mr. James Ranstead, a young man widower, and Miss Mary Haas, daughter of Joseph Haas. The wedding supper took up too much time for the officiating clergyman to fill his appointment in the evening. We had a nice shower of rain last Sunday morning, but we need more. I

The saw mill and tile factory of Adam Longacre burned down last evening about 4 o’clock. The loss is nearly $3,000. Frank Yocum, Mrs. A. Viunedge, Mrs. Will Burger, Mrs. George McCullough and Joe Joslyn went to St. Joseph, Mich., last Sunday. Mr. Yocum took his best girl with him also. Wm. Shetland, our new' trustee, desires the public to know that Saturday will be his office day. All persons having official business with him are requested to call on Saturday. Bert Denniston visited over Sunday in Plymouth. Don’t forget the soldiers’ reunion on Tuesday, Sept. 3. On next Saturday the Lapaz Union Sunday school will picnic in Brown’s grove near the lake of the Woods. They will start from Lapaz at Ba. m. Leonard Logan has moved his stock ’ of goods out of the Coquillard building into the building formerly occupied by S. McChesney as a restaurant. A great deal of sand and stone have been hauled for the new brick block to be erected by Leonard Logan. Mr. James Sherlaud, who lives about 1} miles south of Lapaz, being at workon his cider mill, in some way fell against it and his right hand was so badly lacerated by the spikes that amputation may become necessary. He I came to town and had his hand dressed by Dr. Hollzendoi IT. Messrs Stilson and Albert are nowengaged in making cider oil Gideon Logan’s mill. They have a good power now, and will grind apples every Tuesday and Thursday. V INKIHtKSSKK. GROVERTOWN. Pickles are n t coming in at a very desirable rate. The dry weather and recent cold nights are bad on them. Chas. Stilson’s little daughter is , slowly improving from her illness. Mrs. Paulinsky, of Chicago, returned , to her home last Tuesday after a week’s visit with her sister, Mrs. Will Yeager. Fred Goppert, w ho has been serious ly ill lor some time, is now slowly im- , proving. It’s wonderful how wealthy some , I people are on a show day when they are able to take ’er all in together with their families while their store bills remain unpaid and their next winters s provisions promises to be real scant and they’ll get red hot at the store keeper if he don’t carry them over the winter.
No. 66 was the number that drew the Giffin wheel at Hamlet last Saturday i night and Dr. Abner was very much surprised when apprised of the fact that he was the lucky holder of that number as he has always considered himself very unfortunate in holding 1 numbers. He is now abusing himself ■ in trying to break the animal to ride. We wish to correct the statement made by the correspondent at Koontz’s lake concerning Amos Shaffer. M Lee has built an addition to his harness stole, to be used as a work shop. The new office of Dr. Moore is fast, approaching completion. Several of our local wheelmen were at Buchanan last.
