Mr. nr.d Mrs. Wilson, of New Oar lise, visited several days last, week with Warren Rust and wife. The Misses Fteda and Emily Johnbou, of Chicago, are visiting their ( parents near this place. Sid Allen, of Marion, Ind., is visiting his sister and brother in law, Dr Abner and wife, and other friends. Wbv were von not nt the picnic, did Madame Rumor scare you out? Notwithstanding the very dry weather corn is looking quite well. Will McKesson, of Tyner, assisted by * I Oscar Sontherlin put down a fine well for Hi. Ream last week and are pul- ' i ting one down for Dr. Abner this week. , Haymakers are beginning to ply ( their vocation. The outlook is for a very fair crop and good prices. Abe Sult, of Findlay, Ohio, formerly । of this place, visited over the Fourth with friends and relatives here. He was accompanied by his two daughters, Ava and Zidie. Miss Ava will remain for some time. Grandpa and Grandma Houck with a few other friends picnicked at Koontz’s lake the Fourth Quite n number of our citizens cele- ; brated the Fourth in Knox returning’ for the tire works herein the evening. ! Ed Uneapher, of South Chicago, is j here on a visit to friends. Three years ’ ago he lost his right hand in a planing ; mill for which he sued the company > for SIO,OOO, of which amount he has just received a verdiet for $3,000. Our Childrens Day picnic last Satur day was a decided sneess; all hough the attendance was not as large ns was I expected those who were there most certainly enjoyed themselves, especially the little ones for whom hammocks and lemonade were provided. A fruit and lemonade stand conducted by Joe Wy land, Thad Lish and Orla Holdomau netted the Sunday school live dollars. Superintendent Marsh is very thankful to those who so kindly and ably assist ed him. Oue noticeable effect of this picnic was that it increased the attendance upon our Sunday school last Sunday which we hope will be perma nent. To those who opposed this method of celebrating Childrens Day we will say that there are vacant places for them in the Sunday Scho >l. Won’t they please fill them? Charles Richardson ami mother, of Chicago, are visiting relatives in and around town. A niece and nephew of W. B. Kyle are visiting with him this week. John McCormick has gone to South Bend. Oscar Jarrell, of Marion, is visiting relatives of this place this week. Charles Monroe has moved into the house of F. W. Monroe. Mrs. George Barton, of lowa, is visiting with friends and relatives of near this place ami her old home two miles southeast of town. Quite a lot of huckleberries are being shipped from this place by A. D. Johnson. Mr. Frank Hooton is clerking for J. E. Johnson at present John Hang hauled the first load of new wheat to this market Tuesday. There are three threshing machines within a mile of town and all at work. More machines than wheat . D. E. Snyder, of Plymouth, was in this place on business last week. Charles Detwiler was nt home on a visit the first of the week. Miss Orace Sutherlin returned from Niles, Michigan, Monday, where she was visiting with an uncle, Mr. Joe Case and family. X. Y. Z. Smith. NORTH LIBERTY William Hany was at Kendallville and South Milford during last week. Dr A S. Campbell and his wife are visiting in Kansas. Elmer Irvin’s little daughter Flossie is recovering from injuries received on the fourth. A store room for rent with second story arranged for dwelling. (’lark Dillon is reported much worse at this writing—Wednesday. Samuel Irvin, I u other of Israel Irvin, ami father of Abe Irvin, died at his home near Beatrice, Gage county, Ne braska, lust Sunday, aged 71 years He formerly lived here but removed to Nebraska many years ago. He has been in pom health tor a long period of time, dropsy and heart disease being his last sickness. One of our barbers, Millon Helmick, visited at Buchanan recently. Frank Musslemnn has removed his goods and family to Hamlet. Lydia, wife of Frederck Lamadee, passed away lust Saturday night after a prolonged illness, aged -17 years, 3 months, and 29 days, leaving a bus band and four children to mourn hei j loss. Deceased was born in Green [ township, St. Joseph comity, and was | the youngest, daughter of Abraham । Whitmer. The funeral took place i from the Early German Baptist church, I Rev. Mrs Jennie Shrup and her daughter, of South Bend, visited here recently. Henry Muldoon has given up his position with F. M. Lee in the harness shop. Editor Samuel B. Houser and Elmer Irvin attended the races at South Bend last Wednesday . C F. Keck and Ed Steel have been appointed as teachers lor the Liberty I schools. No one had applied for the ’ primary room and no appointment lias been made for that department. J E. Foster has recently purchased a lot from J. N. Rnpel on South Main I street. He thinks of erecting a dwelling on it. J. B. Repel and Everhart Orr, of LaPorte, were here during the first of the week.
