Mr. Barber was a man of considerable influence and prominence in his county, and always stood ready to lend his aid to any good cause. He took a great interest in politics aud espoused the cauAeof the republican party. He was a candidate for county commissioner a few years ago and was also nominated by his party for representa live of Marshall county in 1892, but as the county was overwhelmingly democratic he was defeated both times. Mr. Barber’s death will be keenly felt not. only in his own county but also in neighboring counties where he had many warm friends. He was a member of the G A. 11. Post, of Walkerton, and the Royal Arcanum, of Plymouth, both organizations being represented at the funeral services. The funeral was held Sunday at tl»« Barber church. Rev. Riley officiating. It was one of the most largely attended funerals ever held in Marshall county. It is estimated that about 500 people were present, only about one third of them being able to get into the chinch. The deceased was a Ohirstian gentle num, having been a member of the U. B. church for many years.
