Several conviets at the Northern prison, were recently engaged in painting and varnishing in the new chapel, and they indulged their appetites for liquor by sly drinks from the alcohol jug, by which they were made deathly sick. The alcohol was made from wood and was very poisonous. Oune of those who drank from it now is blind, his opic mnerves having Dbeen destroyed. Ferdinand Koeh, the popular and talented young pastor of the German Lutheran ehurch at Avilla, has been adjuged insane and will be sent to the Logansport asylum. His mal ady is believed to have been caused by excessive study. Dr. Arlington is giving special at tention to the treatment of chronie diseases and owing to the great increase in his oflice practice has concluded to devote the entire Saturday of each week to his oflice patients. Herealter he will not answer calls to the country on Saturday. An exchange says roller skating is likely to come in again, after having lain quietly in the grave for several vears. Hascall, of the Salem bank, has received a sac simile of a check on the Ketcham bank at Toledo, which a few days ago was ‘raised” from §l2 to $1,200 by a clever forger, who succeed ed in having it cashed at an Altoonn, Pa., bauk. The latter is onut €l,lBB. Mr. Haseall expects to receive a fae simile of the check after bheing ““ruised” in a few days. All bankers are inter-
