A very small worm is said to be injuring the clover in some parts of northern Indiana. Children’s Day exercises will be held at the Presbyterian church StnJay evening, July 15. The republicans of Lincoln township held a meeting in Bender’s opera house last Saturday evening for the purpose of organizing a township club, but as there was a small attendance, owing to the rainy weather, the pro ’ । ject was abandoned until Saturday j, evening, July 14. Thompson Turner , presided, and the meeting was ad- , dressed at some length by Mr. E. Ex-Senator Perkins, of Kansas, who died in Washington a few days ago, was at one lime a resident of Pierceton, Kosciusko county, this state. Annual session of the Island park assembly at Rome City, Ind. July 25 to August 9th—for this occasion the Lake Erie & Western will sell tickets at one fare for the round trip July 23 to August 9. It is called a body blow for woman suffrage because the new ballot law in Kansas provides that “the lower limbs of the voter, as high up as the knees, shall be visible from the outside while voter is in the booth pre- ; paring his ticket, the lower part of j the booth having been left open for that purpose.” A Washington dispatch to the Indianapolis Journal says that “Use Civil-Service Commission has filed with the Postmaster general charges against the postmasters of Ft. Wayne and Logansport. It recommends the; removal of these officials, for the reason that mail carriers were discharged by them without cause.” O. H. Downey, late of the Marshall county, 111 , Democrat, has purchased the Noble County Democrat of Press ler & Son at Albion. The Presslers have made an excellent, paper of the Democrat and the paper will no doubt maintain its present standard in the j hands of the new proprietor, ns Mr. Downey is a newspaper man of experience. Our attention is called to a fact very interesting to wheat growers in this locality. It is this, that when the season for harvesting is damp, as it seems inclined to be this year, tl e grain, in order to grade well, should be allowed to remain in the straw until it is thoroughly dried before threshing. If taken direct from the field to the threshing machine it will heat in the granary or elevator and its quality i thus be destroyed.—Mentone Gazette.
