A postal card costs but a cent and is a convenient medium for sending short messages and there is then no chance of prosecution and payment of a fine that would pay first-| class postage for a long times oo | e o . story, as the ~'ius ww. The story grew U serhe fact that the treasurer by a misunderstanding marked the second installment of taxes of the DPittsburg railway as paid when the road had only paid the first installment and left the second delinguest and in litegation between the state and the railroads. This marking as paid simply showed on the books that much more due from the treasurer, and he paid it over to the state, county and township treasuries out of his own pocket, but the law will enable him to colleet it back from the railroad with the per cent due on the delinquency. So it l‘ will be seen that there is no shortage 'iin the accounts, but in fact the stite, county and townships have §5,500 \mnm money than was ever actually ‘ruvoivvd by the treasurer. The treas- | urer simply by mistake advanced from i‘;his own pocket the delinquent tax of | the Pittsburg road, and when the road pays it will go to the treasurer, as no- | body else has any claim on it.—La- | Porte Argus. ‘ Object Lesson on Goed Roads.
