The Goshen Times notes the carelessness of oil venders, in unintentionally filling kerosene cans with gasoline, claiming that this has frequently occurred, and only rarest good fortune has prevented serious explosions in consequence. A Kansas editor sarcastically announces that he wants to buy a sack of flour, a pair of three-ply bottom pants and a straw hat and is ready to receive lowest bids for same. He says that is the way the merchants do with him when they want two dollars worth of job printing. Last Thursday the conductor on Ne. 8 discovered a scalper on board who was engaged in the business of buying up the stubs of return tickets. The conductor objected to that kind of business on his train, thinking it a violation of law, and therefore endeavored to put the man off at some point west of this. He was not successful, however, and when Nappanee was reached Marshal Tobias was summoned to the scene of contention. When that official arrived he refused to act in the matter lest he should exceed his authority by arresting a man who might be doing a business which the state of Indiana recognizes as I legitimate.
