The following peculiar case is reported by the Elkhart Truth. John A. , .McDonald, a farmer residing near Otis, has just had his left leg amputa- . ted under rather singular circumstances. One week ago he was awakened from sleep with a terrible pain in his leg. Before morning the limb was swollen to three times its normal size, was as black as coal and very cold. In a day or two gangrene set in, and , to save bis life it, became necessary to resort to amputation. This was ac- ’ complished. the patient standing the 'operation well. McDonald has been ! suffering with heart disease and it was ■ found that an embolus or a. diseased • growth had become detached from the ; heart and passing into the circulation had lodged in the main artery of the leg.
