Cleveland. When Harrison was elected he was succeeded by a republican postmaster, who died and the office was ! turned over to the widow. When , Cleveland was elected last month the' German democrat thought he also had been re-elected postmaster. He appeared at the postoffice with a wagon and persuaded the postmistress to al ; low him to remove the effects of the J office to his place. He has since been ; running affairs, fully convinced that Cleveland’s election restored him as postmaster. Mr. Wanamaker has now taken the case in hand. The silver wedding of Rev, B. H. and Mrs. Beall was celebrated at the M. E. church on the evening of the 22d inst. There were about, two hundred guests present, including relatives of the family from abroad. In behalf of the Argos congregation, Mr. j and Mrs. Beall were presented with aC silver tea set, the congregation at Gil- ( ead supplementing the elegant token , with a set of silver knives and forks, ■ while other Green township friends ’ commemorated the occasion by the presentat ion of a set of silver teaspoons । and a butter knife. The road congress recently in session nt Indianapolis will ask the hg- , Mature to enact a law of which the following is I he substance: The present system of district sn pervisors shall be abolished. 1 lie comity commissioner.s shall appoint a “County Superintendent of Highways, with a nahiry of §5 per day lor services actually rendered, who shall have supervision of the construction and maintenance of all public highways in his county outside of cities and ^object to the “State Superintendent of Highways.” He shall hold his office for six years. The county commissioners shall appoint to each township, one “Township Supervisor of Highways,” and who hold his office for a term of four leurs, -ri,., vsllld , htl ve charge of the construction and maintenance or iLo loads outside of the cities, under the roiinty snprintemlent, and receive $2 a lay for services actually rendered.
