It’s the most amusing spectacle that a newspaper man encounters to see a man, w’ho from some fancied or implied wrong in a newspaper item, flies to the office, settles the bill, stops the paper, and then struts out as though he had driven the last nail in the cotlin of the editor’s success, and the whole outfit now was only waiting for the undertaker or the sheriff to put it forever out of sight. These people do not understand that where five of them drop off because of an item, twenty catch on because it pleases them. Such items are usually the ones that make the paper of value in a community.—Nappanee News.
I'’—— — — The Farmers’ Friend says: “A Kansas man says be will plow no more for wheat. He has raised wheat on 40 acres of ground eight years without plowing. Last year his best wheat was grown on that land. He mows the stubble and burns it when dry enough, with a view of destroying insects. Then he sows with a sharp spring hoo drill set into the soil from three to four inches. The plant is said to winter better, as it is not so liable to dry out or freeze out. The cost of raising an acre of wheat is thus much lessened. This is worthy of a trial on a small scale, as it has points in its favor that are very reasonable.” An exchanges says: Own a house. No matter how small, no matter how modest, no matter if you have to run in debt for it. It pays you in the long run. It cheers and encourages you every day; it makes you feel more like a man, makes you a better citizen, adds to the value of property and gives you a stimulus that nothing else can give. Go into a town where a majority own the homes they live in, and then go into a town composed of a class who cannot or think they cannot buy a permanent home. Note the difference. In the first instance you see neat homes that vary in design, and all around are little evidences that show plainly that the people who live there have an interest besides seeing that the rent is paid.

WLat shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and then has tho dyspepsia so bad that he can’t enjoy any of the good things it contains? He wont have dyspepsia if he takes De Witt’s Little Early Risers. J. Endly. Frank Fry and S. A. Robbins attended the republican meeting a.t South Bend last Tuesday evening. The speakers were Governor Chase and Col. James S. Dodge, republican candidate for congress. The rink was litterally packed with people and the speaking was very able and interesting.
