ISLAND ITEMS. Corn js doing fine, Wheat harvest began this week in earnest. Isaac Smith has been quite sick this week but is better ?it this writing. Wm, Dare and wife, of South Bond, visited on the Island over Sunday. Frank Dare has something in the way of curiosity—a duck with three legs. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Duggan, of South Chicago, were called hero last Monday on account of the death of Mrs. Duggan’s sister, Mrs. Gaw. The high water reaches from the railroad to the wagon bridge at the Kankakee and hub deep some places. Bear in mind next Monday is public sale day at Isaac Smith’s, The Misses Callie and Mary Blain are visiting with relatives in New York City. The Aliases Mamie and Jennie Place ; spent the 4th with relatives in Indianai polis. From there they will visit relai lives in Ohio, They wjH be absent 5 ; several weeks. j Mull and Gould propose to do their ! neighbors justice in saving their grain, and have bought a new J. I. Case" threshing machine which has all the latest improvements. 'These men are old threshers and know their business. Give them a call. Died, Mrs. Annie Gaw, wife of Joseph Gaw. She was born August 11, 1853, died July 3d, 1892, aged 38 I yrs., 10 mouths and 24 days. Was married to Joseph Gaw July 11th, j 1878. The husband, two sons and a । daughter, three sisters and two broth- ■ ers are left to mourn the loss of a lov- • ipg wife, a kind mother and an affec - ' tionate sister. The funeral services were held at the Island church last ; Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock, Rev. : Goss in charge. The remains tyere laid to rest in the Walkerton cemetery. Dock. Everybody had a good time. Ed, how about that bank ? Ed Wilcox and Miss Annette Haag were married on the 4t.li of July. They sipe nice young people and all their friends wish them a happy life. Sam Blocksom talks of running for representative on the prohibition ticket. Sam would make a good one. Rev. J. W. Baugh r, the old soldier candidate for representative, was in town on the Fourth showing the boys how to load and unload a cannon. John knows how it is done. Cal Sinninger, of Bremen, was in town on Tuesday calling on his friends. Mr. and M s. James Tyner and fam ily, of Dakota, are visiting here with his sister, Miss Clara Knott. The dance here on the 4th w as a success. Everybody went home happy. Joshua Bennett has bought Sam Haag’s candy store, and he is happy now. Oren Chart moved to Stillwell the other day and moved back after one night’s illness. We h^d a prohibition speech here Tuesday night. Good turnout. J. 11.
