NORTH LIBERTY. to this date our local nsumers have not put up any ice because they think it too “thin.” Dr. J. N. Reece, of Walkerton, was in the village, on last Monday evening. Swift & Co. have begun harvesting the annual ice crop at Fish Lake, in LaPorte county. The ice is not up to the average standard, either in quality or thickness. Edmond Gyer is rejoicing over the ad. vent of a fine girl baby, born to his wife, on Wednesday evening, Jan. 14, 1891. G. E. Williams spent last Sunday ar.d Monday with his old friend, Charlie Harris, of Rolling Prairie. A. 11. Kizer, Esq., of Oceola, Ind., was in town a few hours, last Friday, on business. Isaiah Lambert is the happy father of a fine daughter, born to his wife, on Friday afternoon, January 16, 1891. The young ladies of the M. E. church will give an old fashioned New England supper at the New Brick hall in this village, on Wednesday evening, Jan 28. After the supper will eccar a sale of fancy work. Ihe proceeds to be appropriated to the purchase of a carpet for the church.
TEEGARDEN. We understand that meeting will commence at the Barber church, Monday evening. B F- Letherman is making preparations to build a house uext spring. Cash Bodine’s wife slipped and fell one day last week and quite severely injured herself. Gentlemen, it is a bad idea to fight about saw-logs. The teachers all report a good time at Tyner last Saturday in the joint institute with West Township teachers. Miss Dora Maurer is quite ill with the measles.
Valentine Easterday lias moved into the house that he purchased from J. E. Myers, a short time ago. Mrs. C. A. Lernert and brother, Major, ’.vere visiting with their grandparents in South Bend, this week. J. Kinney lias moved his blacksmith tools from William Aldrich's blacksmith । shop to John Murdock’s, in the country. While Thomas Ilornsbee was working at the saw-mill, the other day, a log rolled onto his foot and quite severely crushed itIT. W. Ford is turning out about 12,000 feet of 1 u nber every twenty-four hours. S. F. Martin returned home, Wednesday, from his trip to the South. C- M. Lotz is preparing to re-inodel his barn in the spring to a bank barn. J. 11. Barber lias the material on the ground for building a large barn, in the j spring. L. C. Nixon has sold his barn to his son-in-law, in Ohio, and has purchased the I part of L. L. Lemerl’s farm north of the railroad. L. L. Lemert & Co. shut down buying coal-wood Jan. 17. Want of room in the yard the cause. Dr. R. Neville is so busy with his practice that he is riding both night and day most of the time. Last Sunday night some mischievous boys changed the wheels on Win. Beck’s carriage while at Singing- Suspicion points strongly to the guilty ones, and a repetition of the act will get them into trouble; Joe Bowers has purchased a long-eared hound with which to hunt rabbits. TYNER CITY. Mr. Burns’ little boy has searlet fever and is quite sick. The protracted meeting closed Monday night. They had poor success in getting converts. Tyner has been on a drunk for the last week, and there is so much fighting and noise that it is a hard matter for what few sober people there are to get any sleep. The Boyd school is closed on account of measles; half of the school broke out with measles, last Tuesday. Mrs. Taylor is very sick and no hopes of recovery. Frank Leatherman’s brother, of Elkhart, is yisiting here. Our saloons are doing more cash business than the stores all put together. That sounds bad for our city. Ed Wallace is driving two very fine horses. How can jou afford to put on 'so much style? John Neff is at home visiting his parents and friends. Dick. MOUNT VERNON. i Miss Martha Wily is stopping with I friends in this vicinity. Miss Anna Swartz, who has been teaching in LaPorte county, is confined at home with measles. Simon Ransberger is drawing building material on his farm in this locality, and intends building both a house and a barn in the near future; Simon is a rusher, and has a big eye for general improvement. Rob Rinehart is at home this week visiting. He reported the freight traffic on the B. A O. as being very dull for this season. Miss Libbie and Willard Rinehart visited with relatives in the vicinity of Steele's mill, last Saturday and Sunday. The spelling school at Mount Vernon, j last Wednesday evening, was a success despite the dismal weather during the day; as usual the M. V.'s won the laurels; how could it be otherwise? B. F. Rinehart is out at his other farm, | this ween, getting out timber preparatory : to re-modeling his residence, the coming 1 spring.
