Marshal Fry will at once see to it that our streets are kept free from dust. Every one in business, especially on Avenue F, will agree with this paper, without doubt, that an expense of 25 cents a week would be of no consequence when compared to the damage done goods during one summer by having dusty streets. The Band Concert came off last Friday and Saturday evenings as per announcement. A fair audience was present both evenings, and they gave good performances. The drawing came off Saturday evening, and the fallowing articles were drawn: Charles Ppol, drew the secretary, a very fine piece of furniture; Mrs. S. L. Smith, drew the sleigh, valued at S2B; Mrs. Sheatsly, of the Florence house, a fine perfume cabinet; Ben Rinehart, drew a splendid hanging lamp; W. A. Daily, a fine plush album; A traveling gentleman, named Johnson, drew a silk muffler; the ladies’ gold band ring, was drawn by Ed. Vincent; D. M. Petrie, a fruit dish; and L. B. Hummell drew a Bible! The net proceeds of the drawing and admission to the concerts was $85.90. The band boys extend their hearty thanks to the public for their liberal patronage, and also to the singers who so kindly favored them. Mr. E. Le.ibole called our attention the other day to a bee-hive that be manufactures, which, in our judgement, is a clever device. We know but little. if anything, about bee-hives, but if Mr. Leibole’s scheme don’t fool the wily bee we miss our guess. The bee invariably lays up his store of honey for winter’s use first, afterwards working for his employer until he fills the remaining space in his hive, if it is not too large. Mr. Leibole’s device fools the industrious bee in that he is induced to put forth extra efforts. The hive is so arranged that when the insect is about to cease its labors in the way of manufacturing honey for other folks that the apartment containing tho honey is slyly removed and an empty one put in its place, and the bee is thus led to believe that he has failed of duty, and, with renewed energy, goes at it and puts up more of the edible. We look upon it as not only taking undue advantage of the innocent and industrious insect but that it is really wicked to thus deceive him, and therefore think him fully justified in now and then stinging the originator. One excellent feature of the hive is that it is so arranged that it is impossible for thieving bees to steal from those disposed to do the fair thing. All taken together it is certainly an excellent bee-hive, a sample of which may be seen at any time at Mr. Leibole’s carpenter shop. Address John lachholtz, Walkerton. Ind. Mrs. U. F. Townsend visited in Knox last week. Silver Wedding. Last Sunday, Junol, was the twen-ty-fifth anniversary of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. E. Steele, and their eldest son, John, and amiable wife concluded to give the old folks a surprise. The worthy couple, together with the younger childre i, went to their usual place of worship in the morning and returned near the noon hour; the premises to all outward appearances were entirely deserted; but upon entering, to their complete surprise and astonishment. they found assembled there sixty-five of their immediate relatives besides two tables extended to their fullest length and groaning under the weight of many and delicate varieties of food to which all did ample, justice. It was, indeed, an enjoyable affair. They were the recipients of quite a number of useful and valuable presents. Mr. and Mrs. Steele are enjoying good health and bid fair to pass a great many mile stones on the journey of life together. One Who Was There, Attention Farmers. We noticed an article in the Tribune that the Champion Co., or Warden Bushnell & Glassner Co., had bought out the Whiteley Co., and that they were the sole manufacturers of the Champion machines. That part is true; but when they say the .Whitley's are not making any machines,, that is untrue. Our factory is running at full capacity and turning out a machine every two and a half minutes or in other words 150 machines per day and the Best Machines on Earth. Our competitors know this to be true and they are in the last ditch with their old “boxed” up, out of date machines. They must resort to all manner of falsehood in order to peddle off their old stuff to the farmers. No intelligent farmer should give lus order for a binder or mower until he has seen and examined the Whitely machines. They are sold with the best of guarantee and warranted for two seasetos and as cheap as any 1890 binder o/ mower. When all others failed in the heavy and tangled grain of 1889 the Whitley solid steel binder wont through surprising the oldest farmers of Marshall Co., Madison tp., of St. Joe Co., and of Laporte Co., Ind. These machines are the lightest draft, the most simple in construction and the most perfect balanced binder and mower on earth. Amos Whitely & Co. Springfield, Ohio. Jacob Fries, Jr., Spec. Agt.
