The Standard Oil Company's building is about completed at this place. The young law graduate, Frank Hostetter. is making headquarters with Attorney I}ailey, and at present makes collecting his principal business. There is a rumor going the rounds to the effect that a new clothing store is about to be started here. But whp the n^rtic^e r wotteth;u ot. William Ballenger, of near this place, has been suffering for some time with a very painful carbuncle on the back of his ueck. He is growing better at this writ-ing--Thursday. Our Goshen people are putting on metropolitan airs, and talking ot belt railroads, street pavements, street cars and sich.—Bristol Banner. We knock that all out here. John Robison, of the Island, has again gone insane, and application has been made to the authorities tor his return to the asylum at Indianapolis. Mr Dunham, of Pittsburg, managerx of the pickle sailing machine has been here ibis week making the winter payment for pickles purchased lust stun ner, and letting new contracts for the coming season. By closely watching the La Porte Iler aid-Chronicle one makes the discovt rv that that enterprising journal embraces every opportunity to catch every item of news of interest both at home and abroad. Jerry Fogarty, one of our B. & 0. sec tion foreman, was thrown from a hand car one dav last week, and sustained a severe injury ofthe hip joint. It was feared at the time that bis injuries might be quite serious. He. however, is said to be doing very well, ami hopes are entertained that he will make a happy and rapid recovery. There are now twelve passenger trains passing over the B. it 0. road every twenty-four hours, and tomorrow (Sundav) the con ’ arv will put two more on the road. Eighteen passenger trains will then pass through this place every twenty—four hours. The editor of this paper received a letter the other day from Al. M. Hendee, formerly of tins place, but now of Kansas City, Mo., bearing the sad intelligence of his mother's death, which occurred Dec. 9. The cause of her death was liver and kidney trouble. Her age was 53 years, 3 months and 26 days. Mrs. Hendee was well and favorably known in this communitv, having been a resident of this place several years ago, prior to the removal of her family to the west. '1 he Independent extends its heartfelt condolence to AL and to the other bereaved relatives of the deceased lady. BRACE UP.
