We are having some very eloquent political speeches on our streets now a days. From every direction our exchanges tell of the damage done by the recent wind storm. Attorney Dailey procured a divorce for Mary A. Sprague at South Bend last Wednesday. I’here is but little sicknesss in this locality at present, a fact to which the dofr* tois will reluctantly testify. Mrs. Renberger accompanied her mother, Mrs. Horn, to Plymouth, on her way home at Warsaw, the other day. It you don’t want tu vote for Siitvely vote for Packard, of course, and it you don’t want to vote for Packard, vote for Shively, of course. It is rumored that two passenger trains collided on the. B. & 0., at Albion, early Thursday morning, while turning a curve. The cause of the accident is attributed to the negligence of the train dispatcher. We have not learned whether any one was injured or killed. By bills printed at this office it will be seeu that W. C. Farmer Jacob Giberson brought to this office a radish about 19 inches in circum ierence and 10 inches long. We don't know whether he wanted us to put that radish in the paper or not, but when as green a farmer as Jake is brings a radish , if the dimensions of that one to this office, i t goesslan into the Independent. The young ladies of the M. E. church he Id a box social Tuesday evening at the res. der of S. Hudlemyer. There was a fa. r attendance, and a good time is re-purte-d. The boxes, which contained eatables of different kinds, were sold at 25 cents each. The receipts amounted tn about fH, and will be used for the benefit of the 1 I. E. church. Mr. j ohn Sheerer has raised a radish that is jn st about the size of a child at the age of 12 months. It has the form of a child near -y, the body- being well defined. The arms and hands are quite natural, roots shooting out for fingers. The body tapers to ab oint as a mermaid. A tuft of leaves on tc p represent the hair. TSEE PAST WEBEL’S WEATHER RECORD. Mooday morning opened up bilious, got over it by 10 o’clock and the balance of the clay was beautiful. Tuesday morning opened warm, with a clear sky, and remained so all day. Wednesday cloudy ail day, rain about noon, clearing off in the evenin g. Thursday morning the sun rose at about its usual time, for this time of year, and shone brightly ail day. Friday morning sun rose clear and will remain so all day. Saturday morning sun will rise clear or otherwise, and remain so until quarter past 3 o’clock p. m. That is the best we can do when we are compelled to make up the report Friday morning.
Personal Points. Frank Jones was in South Bend last Thursday and Friday. Miss Ella Swank has been paying relatives a visit in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. John Johson, of Tyner, were in town last Tuesday, the guests of friends. J. C. Ogle, of Denver, Ind., was in town Thursday, in the interests of the Denver Roller Mills. Doc. Hostetter, formerly of this place but now a resident of Colorado, made a brief visit with relatives in this place the other day. Fred Decker visited relatives in Knox last Sunday, and says that the Three I road is completed and the construction train running to that point. Geo. Paul, of Plymouth, was in town last Saturday. lie is still engaged iu the insurance business, and thinks of opening a restaurant in that place, soon. Will Tank went to Garrett the latter part of last week to attend the funeral of a member of the Brotherhood of Firemen, of which organization Will is a member. Hon. Wm. C. MeMichael and Andrew J. Jaquith, Democratic candidates for Clerk and Auditor, respectively, of St. Joseph county, made us a brief but pleasant visit last Thursday evening. S. H Latzer, agent for the Boston Suspender Co.. Chicago, was in this place the latter part of last week, in the interests of the above firm, and while here favored us with a call. Mr. Latzer is a practical printer, and was formerly in the newspaper business. He intends to re-engage in journ; alism some time in the future.
