In a recent speech before the curtain in New York Augnstin Daly said, in thanking the public for its support of his endeavors: "If I have not produced more new plays during tbe season for your entertainment, it has been because I have not been able to find good plays -with acceptable themes which I thought worthy to be placed before you. Women's Club#.
It is not solely for the advancement of pure thought in the azure zone of intellect that women's clubs are formed. There are feminino societies or clubs for the promotion of cooking, cycling, needlework, munioipal reform, athletics, singing, politics, equestrianism, the cosmos, lukewarm tea and many other things. In our time the field of femininity is coextensive with the compass of womanhood.—New York Sun.
Father of Country.
The sobriquet "Father of His Country" was first applied to Marias, the Roman officer who, B. C. 102 and 101, won signal Victories over tho northern barbarians. Marius declined tho honor, but tho name was afterward given to Cicero, then to aeverol more or leas worthy Roman emperors, and finally to Washington, who, by his enemies, was also termed tho "Stepfather of His Country."

The Merchants Premium Co, Meeting the Success Due a Good Thing.
We have all heard of The Merchant^ Premium Co., but the name erivea but a slight clue to their business. We find ft is very novel, from the faot that they will sell nothing, but are giving away entirely free a line of moit beautiful artioles for home adornment.
The managers are employed by nearly one hundred merchants, i6 forty-eight retail lines, to place their business on a proper and friendly footing with the families of this oity. To do this thfe merohants pay each w6ek an amoijjat which will cover the entire eo^t of the premiums and other expenses of tbe oompany. The pr6miutas may be obtained In a very short time by any one Eaoh merchant has a blook of stamps gummed and perforated, and he ^11 give to ever^pne asking for them one stamp for eaoh ten cents in your pur chase. On a ten oent purohaae you get one stamp, sixty oent purohase six stamps, and so on. These stamps you take home and insert in the small book whioh the oompany furnishes everyone free, and when you have your book filled any article whioh you seleot from their stock of premiums Is yours, en tirely free. Taking into consideration that grooers, meat markets, clothing men, milliners, and, In faot, you might say all trades are represented, the best in their respective lines in the olty, it will not take long for every family in the olty of Terre Haute to have one of these beautiful premiums. The office of the oompany is at 652 Main where the premiums are on where you are invited to call, se#Hhe premiums, and get all necessary information.

That's what happened to the shirt waists for the past two weeks. But they're dead ripe again, now, and we are better prepared than ever to lannder them in first olass shape. Oar oldest, best, and most experienced hands are employed on ladies'
shirt waists, and we'll leave nothing undone that money and experienee can find to do the work better than anyone else.
We still stick to our motto that there's nothing too good for the ladies.
