OUT OF THE ORDINARY.
A well-known gentleman of this city not long ago received a summons from Chicago court to the effeot that be was a defendant in a suit to quiet title to a piece of real estate in that aity. He was not aware that be had any interest in any Chicago real estate, but not wishing to take any chances that he might have in gaining fool-bold in the greatest city on earth, he went up to investigate. There be discovered that in 1838 an uncle bad purchased some eighty acres of land that is now in the heart of the World's Fair oity, for which he paid £4,500. The title was vested in the p^cbaser as trustee for his sister (the Terre Haute man's mother,) but as real estate in: Chicago was scarcely as desirable as now, the title was allowed to fop&e, and the suit to quiet title was sithplya matter of form to clear up a little cloud that rested on the property.. The land was situated north of Twenty-second street, and abutted on Lake Michigan, and the Terre Haute man, who is quite well todo btmself, took several long breaths when be learned that the eighty acres that was purchased for $4,500, is worth now, without a building on it, over twohundred million dollars. After he had takentwo or three long breaths be expressed a regret that he bad not been on the scene of action in 1838, with an inkling of the future, and kept that title perfect, for it certainly would have placed him" beyond the dreams of avarice."
