His efforts have been rewarded with success and tbe announcement is made that the marriage will take place in the spring. Mr. Davis is one of the members of the celebrated Davis family of Terre Haute, who have sung in this city on a number of occasions. Henry H. Sleight and Miss Kathryn Yan Valzah were united in marriage last Tuesday evening at St. Stephen's church, Rev. J. D. Stanley performing the ceremony. Owing to the recent death of the bride's father, the late Dr. Robert Van Vajzah, the wedding was strictly private, and the young couple left at once for Chicago, where they will remain two weeks. On their return they will take rooms with the groom's parents H. D, Sleight and wife, of 453 north Center street. The groom .is connected with the Yandalia car account ant's office, being quite popular among his associates, and the bride is a most estimable young lady of education and refinement. Both have many friends who wish them along and prosperous voyage on the sea of life.
Last Monday was the sixteenth birthday of Miss Agnes MoNab, of 917 north Seventh street, and she was ably assisted in its celebration by 3 number of her young friends at her home in the evening. A number of games of various kinds was introduced and the time passed merrily until 10:30, when refreshments were served. The marriage of Charles Banr and Miss Dorothy May Oarnathan, on the I4tb instant, at Niagara, Ontario, was the society event of tbe season at that place. The ceremony was performed in St. Mark's Episcopal church by the venerable Archdeacon McMurrsy, assisted by the Right Rev. J. C, Lewis, of Toronto, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. The interior of the church was tastefully and artistically decorated with chrysanthemums and evergreens. tnme of white corded silk, Empire style, trimmed in Duchess lace and set off by a cord girdle, her only ornaments being orange blossoms and diamonds. In her band she carried a prayer book, bound in white ivory, with a monogram set in pearls, her mother's gift. The bridesmaids wore gowns of pink silk, while the maid of honor was dressed in hite, the same as the bride. Instead of uquets they carried mufls made of pink and white carnations. The groom and his beat man were dressed in conventional black. A hymn by the ohoir followed the ceremony, and as the party left the church a joyous wedding march pealed forth from the organ. Repairing to the home of Robert Best, a former partner of the bride's father, an elaborate wedding breakfast awaited the party, and shortlj' after the bride and groom left on their wedding tour.
