George M. Hoover and wife, of Warren park, will celebrate their twentieth wedding anniversary this evening.
Miss Ida Mengel, who has been visiting here for some time, was called to St. Joseph, Mo., this week by the serious illnes3 of her sister-in-law.
John Dommershausen and wife entertained their friends on Monday evening at their home on Liberty avenue in honor of Miss Lena Frisz, of North Vernon, Ind.
Lee Seligsberger and wife started for New York City on Wednesday afternoon, and will sail to-day for Germany on the North German liner Saale. They will be absent three months.
President McKeen left for Minneapolis at noon yesterday in his private car, accompanied by Hon. R. W. Thompson, Col. Thomas H. Nelson, Harry W. Thompson and Samuel S. Early.
Judge Isaao N. Pierce was taken suddenly ill while sitting in his office Thursday afternoon and had to be removed to his home in a carriage. It was an attack of congestion of the stomach. He has recovered.
John Ward, of south Eighth street was surprised by about thirty of his friends on Tuesday evening, the occasion being his twenty-first birthday. There were games and music, followed by refreshments, and all present had a most delightful time.
Miss Laura Ballard entertained a few of her numerous young friends on Monday evening to assist in the celebration of her flfteonth birthday. The time was enjoyably spent in games, and refreshments were served, the guests retiring at a late hour with best wishes for many happy returns of the day.
Alexander Stewart, junior partner of Ernll Wulechner «fc Son, was in the city yesterday en route to Indianapolis from St. Louis, where he served as best man at the, Parker-Toms wedding on Thursday evening. Tho entire families of both houses mentioned will sail for Europe on June 22d, by the Majestic, to remain abroad until the last of September,

Mrs. Frances Hord and daughter have returned from Ann Arbor, Mich. Mr Hord will join them here at the close of the college term, July 1st.

Allen Harry Donham and Miss Julia Evelyn Ball were married at tho residence of the bride's brother, Wm, C. and Spencer F. Ball, on south Sixth street, on Thursday at noon, the ceremony being performed by Rev, J. D. Stanley in the presence of the relative* and a,few friends. After the ceremony the bride and groom left for Chicago and other points north to be gone several weeks. On their return they will reside at south Outer street.. No cards.
Mrs. Harry B. Sweet entertained a number of her friends with progressive euchre yesterday afternoon at her home on south Fifth street. Each guest was presented with a handsome souvenir card, bearing a selection of poetry from some favorite author. Elegant refreshments, consisting of cake, berries and ice cream and coffee were served. The first prize was won by Mrs. S. C. Barker, and Miss Agnes Shepler captured the booby. Those present were Mesdames J, Q. Button, E. D. Harvey, M. a Sargent, B, L. Wagner, S. C. Barker, J. Bigwood, W. H. Duncan, C. H. Tyler, Edwin Ellis, Otto Riehle and Prof. Recker Misses Helen Tyler, Cora EUis and Agaes Shepler. Mrs. Sweet will remove to Bellvtlle, Hi., in two weeks, where her husband will engage in business.*
