The Hon. Thomas H. Nelson has decided to accompany Governor Hovey to Mexico City in November next. Senator Voorhees is as yet undecided as to whether he can join the party.
Mother Superior, Sister Mary Cleophas, of St. Mary's, left Monday morning for the East on a yisit to all of tho schools of the Sisters of Providence in America, and will be gone several weeks.
Mrs. Anton Weidel went to St. Louis Tuesday, where she will visit her eldest daughter for two weeks, and will go from there to Q.uiucy, 111., where she will spend the winter with her youngest daughter.
J. W. Jones, of Bowling Green, Ky., who at one time wa^ well known in newspaper circles here, anived in the the city last Monday. He waa elected to the common pleas bench In this county in 1856.
The wedding of Miss Anna Strong and Ben McKeen, will be on the 20th of this month, i» the evening, at St. Stephen's Church. There will be a reception at the residence of the bride's parents, Joseph Strong and wife.

The Washington bureau of the Sentinel has been placed in charge of Mr. Charles Carroll Carlton, one of the ablest and best equipped newspaper men at the Capital. The Washington service of the Sentinel will be more complete and comprehensive in the future than ever befoue,—Indianapolis Sentinel.
Last Saturday afternoon John N. Pott, a mining engineer at Clinton, Ind., registered at the Terre Haute. Later Miss Lottie Blanche Hill, of Philadelphia arrived, and after a short rest the couple went to the Presbyterian parsonage, where they were united in marriage by Rev. Goorge R. Pierce. They left for Clinton, their future homo, on Monday.
On Wednesday evening President Ijams gave a dinner to a number of gentlemen who were her® attending the races, at The Terre Haute. The guests from outside the city were: Governor W. R. Merriam, of Minnesota, E, C. Long, C. J. Hamlitn, Harry Hamlim, Budd Doble, F. T. Moran, Colonel John W. Con ley, E. A. Brash, W. S. Holmrt, J. H. Steiner, M. A. McDonald, Frank Walker, J. H. Stephens and P. C. Kellogg. There were also several Terre Haute gentlemen present.
On Saturday evening last Bden Culien was very pleasantly surprised by a large number of hi* friends, tbe occasion being his sixtieth birthday, fie had been in Indianapolis, and did not return until late at night, consequently tbe surprise was complete. Elegant refreshments were served, after which there were vocal and instrumental music, games of various kinds and social chat. Those present were Misses Kate Demick, Kate Rice.
