City Treasurer Hanck was taken by surprise Thursday evening by many of bis friends wbo called to celebrate his 30tb birthday anniversary.

A farewell reception was given last evening, at the Christian Church to Ml*. A. C. Chad wick. That gentleman leaves to-day for Denver, Col., to make his future home.

George Irwin, of tbe Western Union Telegraph company's office reached his 21st birthday yesterday and his mother presented him with a handsome gold watch and chain.

Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Ball, of New York, Harry McChesney, of Chicago, and Frank McCbesney, of Sedalia, Mo., are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McCbesney.

Tbe children of the Congregational S. S. sent a large box of dolls, toys and candy, to a Virginia Bcbool this week. They are now contemplating sending another box to a school in southern Indiana.

Mrs. M. A. Aydelotte, of south Fifth street, has returned home to spend tbe holidays, after spending several weeks at Spencer, Worthington and Indianapolis, where she has been giving elocution lessons.

Mrs. C. F. Forristall, of 1512 Chestnut street, has received notice ef tbe death of her guardian and uncle, Dr. Wm. Finkbine, at Cincinnati. He was in his iUird year and until a few weeks ago he was in apparently excellent health.

Miss Nona Miller, of north Seventh street was agreeably surprised Thursday evening by a number of her friends. The surprisers were masked. Dancing, games and refreshments were the features and a delightful evening spept.

Mas Anna Strong entertained# few of bor friends, Wednesday afternoon, with an elaborate dinner party. The guests were Mrs. R. D. Digges, Misses Kate Ijains, Anna Warren, Elise Hudson, Carrie Hyde, Margaret Tuell, Lizzie Stanley, Sue Beach, Frances Haberly and Emma Boland.

C., conveys tbe intelligence that within tbe last few days Miss Halite Yoorbees, only daughter of Senator Voorhees, had become a convert to the Roman Catholic faith and that she was recently baptized and received Into tbe communion of the church atSt. Matthew's church, corner of Fifteenth and G. streets, by Rev. Dr. Cbappelle, the pastor.

The Minuet Dancing Club gave a delightful dauce Tuesday evening at Bind ley halt, there being about thirty couples presont. A progiammeof six teen dances was carried out. Those present were: Misses Calcut, Jessie Miller, Edna Jones, Mary Preston, Grace Button, Maggie Chadwick, E. C. Pence, Jennie Foster, Anna King, Nona Miller, Jessie Robinson, Bird Burden, Cora Mr Allister and Messrs. Frank Ball, Bud Bratunn, Frank Cook, Geo. Grimes, Jos. Kern, Harry Hutton, Chas. Miller, C. Dobbs, Ortwin Nurnberger, Ernest Layman, Harry Pinkley, Ed Hulman and Rudy Gundlettnger.
