There baa been an undertone of gtpttp for some little time past iboat-f^rne Next pictures which a crowd'of^aiJg #rl^to make th~, bad taken. It jeemed that society jwse rather dull and the amusements and entertainmenta of various sorts grew monotonous. What could be done out of the usual run of aflkirs, something that wonld In itself convey pleasure and afford a subject to talk about for days to come? A bright idea struck one of the young ladies and no sooner was it suggested to the others than the programme was adopted on the spot. The young agreed to turn amateur photographers. It would be such delightful fun to pictures. A camera was borowed, the plates secured, and everything gotten in readiness for the taking of blue prints. There is a certain degree of silence maintained concerning the blue prints and they have not been given a very wide distribution. In consequence much has to be surmised. The girls were photographed In various attitudes, aesthetic and comic. They wore various costumes and thoee who were of a dramatic turn of mind posed as some of the favorites before the footlights. There WBS but one edition printed and in consequence the blue prints are few and it is a difficult matter to obtain one. The plates are probably destroyed. The fun and novelty loving maidens no doubt enjoyed themselves arranging the curtains of the room to get the required light, studying poses, in short everything connected with photography, but they are sorry that their amusement "got out."

About fifteen of the defunct new division will go into tho old, making a total membership of upwsrd of 60. With this new timber the reputation of No. 3 will be maintained. The members have their eye fixed on first prize at Milwaukee in '90,

Freight rates in coal to this city have been adjusted and there is some interest in watching the effect. The Vandal la formerly charged cents per ton from Brazil to this city. The I. A 8t. hauled coal about the same distance for 25 cents per ton. The E. A T. H. and E. A I. brought coal into this market at about the same rate as the Vandalla. Not long ago the Vandaliaand the others reduced the rate to that made by the Bee line. The three systems have agreed upon a compromise measure and.all lines are charging 36 cents per ton to this city. From present Indication* the rate seems to be regarded very favorably by those concerned. ____________
