Omc of the most Interesting events of cthe \v«y»k was the dedication, by the tJ. A. H. boys of their new ball, on Thursday evening. Michael Schaab, aged about twentyone, came to this country last January from Germany, and went to an unde in Union Hill, near New York city. A month later he went to work in a varnish works, and soon became a close friend of Henry Lute, tbe foreman, who took him into bis home as a boarder. Mrs. Lut* is thirty-four years old and anything bnt beautiful. Schaab soon becathe very intimate with her, and informed her that he was engaged to a young girl in Germany named Katie Mother, for whom be intended to send aa soon as he had saved enough money.
With a generosity peculiar to this case, Mrs. Lutz furnished the money to bring the girl over, and in July last she arrived, and was placed In a boarding bouse, where Schaab paid a month's board for her in advance. Her clothing was not the best, but this defect waa remedied by a further advance of |30 by Mrs.
Lutz. About this time it was observed that Schaab spent much of his time with Mrs. Lutz, whose husband waa informed tbat things were not as tbey should be at his home. He decided to sell bis property and remove to New York city. His house and lot brought |2,200, which be placed in tbe bank. He shortly after drew out 11,500, which he gave his mother to keep for him, and placed tbe remaining |700 in his wife's name.
Something over two weeks ago Lutz returned from his work one day and found his home deserted. On a table lay his wife's wedding ring, and a note Irom her saying she bad gone olf with young Schaab, aud would never return. Investigation showed tbat *she bad drawn tbe |700 from the bank and taken it along. A detective was employed, who discovered tbat they had «le|»arted for this city, where it waa supposed one of tbe parties had relatives. Chief of Police Vandever heard of the oase last Monday evening and went to work on it the following day. It was discovered tbat tbe couple arrived here on tbe morning of the lfith, a«d tbat their trunks, two in number, had been carried away from the I A St. L. depot tbe same night. After tbe dty had been thoroughly overhauled they were located ia north end boarding hoase, where they peased as man and wife. On Wodaesday •morning officer John Cain called •upon tbem and escorted tbem to police headQuarters, where' they acknowledged -their guilt and turned over to Chief Vandever |600, the, balance on hand of the stolen money. Tbe husband was telegraphed at once, and be immediately eent fcaok instructions. The woman voluntarily went before a notary public and'made affidavit of her guilt, after which sbe was given
sndthe pair were ftllowed to depart. The husband has his evidence upon which to procure a divorce, and now tbat the faithless spouse ie without money her •companion in orimo will probably desert her for a more congenial portnor.
