F. Peiponbring, after giving Indianapolis a trial, has returned to this city and leased tho old Habormeyer oyster rooms, ou Fourth Street.
John W. Hickcox and family came home on Monday from Philadelphia and othor eastern points, where they have been for some three weeks.
Miss Helen Hebb returned home Wednesday morning after an absence of some throe years, during which she hftj» been with her aunt at Sioux City, Iowa.
John F. Regan left, on Thursday night, for Chicago, Washington, Baltimore, Yorktown, Philadelphia and Long Branch. Ho will be gone about two weoks.
Georgo M. Allen, Assistant Paymaster in tho United States Navy, is now in Washington, making settlement of his accounts, and will shortly visit his home in this city.
Harry A. lXxison, of this city, was married on Thursday of last week, at Nabb, Clark county this State, to Miss Alico Mace, of that place. They will mako this city their home.
George P. Wilkins, foreman of the
Second street, Tuesday evening. There is no more popular printer in tho city than George Wilkins, and the craft join in boat wishes that the future of the woddod pair may be one of happiness.
Ind. Tlmos: Senator Voorhees's personal staff at Atlanta consisted of exiulntstor to Chill, Colonel Thomas H. Nelsoa, ex-County Treasurer J. M. Sankey, John K, Lamb and Frank Luse, all of Torro Haute. They took turns holding the senator's hat, while he delivered his able argument in favor -of a protective tariff.

He has to-day oysters, in bulk or can, celery, chickens, cranberries, sweet potatoes, currants, raisins, fresh butter and eggs, baked beans, dried navy beans, dried peas, and a fine lot of canned goods, both foreign and domestic, together with table supplies of every description, all of which he sells at the lowest market prices.

Louisville people have a rather confused notion of the use of towels. One citizeuused two of them the other day to hang himself with.
A couple had taken their places before clergyman to be married, at Lowville, N. Y. when a quarrel arose about the handling of the ring, and the wedding as postponed indefinitely.
A sentimontal fellow at Wrightstown, Minn., wrote to a girl that he would hang himself, if she did not marry him. As she was a stranger, she took his queer missive as an insulting joke, and replied angrily that ho would please her greatly by choosing tho tree which grew near the window of her room. When she looked out next morning there hung his lifeless l)ody.

Whereas, the undersigned Board of Oommisloners of Vigo county and State o( Indiana, bare adopted plans and specifications for a
COMMON JAIL, which plans and specifications are and will remain on file in the office of the Auditor of said county, in the city of Terre Haute.
Now, therefore, notice is hereby given that sealed bids and proposals for the const/action of said JAIL, will be received at the said office of said Auditor up to and including Tuesday, the 1st day of November, 1881.
That such bids will be received for the con struction, strictly in accordance with the said plans and specifications, of any separate part, or several parts, or for the whole of said building: that is, the said Board will receive and consider bids for the furnishing of msterial and the construction of the work of any part, or of any several parts, or of the whole of said JAIL, and in all such bids the material and work, in accordance with the plans and specifications, which plans snd specifications shall be a pan of any contract which may be enter* ed into with any bidder, mnst be embraced, and the orice therefor stated, so as to distinguish part.
