W. W. Durand, a veteran In the show business, wai in the city this week conferring with the newspaper men, in regard to heralding the coming of Baruum's show on the 38th—the big announcement of which will appear In Tho Mail next week. Mr. Durand is an Indiana man. residing at BloomingIon. He thoroughly uuderstatida the work he has in hand, and brings to bear •rare good judgment in the discharge of the same. It is a pleasure to do business with such a man. The same cannot be •aid of all press agent*.

Prof. R. Garvin came home yesterday morning greatly benefitted by a month's stay and drinking of Waukesha's waters.

Mrs. Jos. Acock, with her children, arrived safely at her old home in Oxford, England, on the 25th of June, after a pleasant trip.

Howard Sandison, principal of the High School has been tendered the department of primary methods in the Normal School.

Mrs. B. F. Havens and her sister, 'Mrs'. J. W. Harrison, from Frankfort, Ind., went down to Sullivan yesterday for a visit of a few days.

Mrs. Jennie E. Saunders, who has been visiting here for several weeks, will start start back for her new home at Iowa City next Monday.

J. H. Simmons lias taken a partnership interest with W. W. Cliver in the grocery business, and the style of the firm will be Cliver A Simmons.

Miss Sallie Scott, of the Normal training school, has been given leave of absence for a year, on account of ill health and in order to take up some studies.

Harvey J. Huston, who was with Capt. D. D. Wheeler, came in from the northwest Thursday afternoon, and was taken to the insane asylum for treatment.

Col. Hill has sent word to Will Sherburne that he can't be spared from the road, and that if he will no longer run an engine there are other positions open for him. "Boss Joe" has determined to pull out from Terre Haute. He has leased a room at Minneapolis, where he will open a stock of goods in time for the Fall trade.

Marlln Early, of the police force, was married Weduesday morning, at Washington, Ind., to Miss Mary E. Mattingly, of that tewn, and brought home his bride on the night train.
