THK biggest joke of the campaign is the fact that the Gallatin Guards—they of the ox team—who were petted and cajoled by the Democrats, and figured so prominently in their processions, I turned when it came to cast their ballots I and voted the Republican ticket.
THE total vote cast in this county on I on Tuesday for Presidential electors was 10,340. Of these votes Garfield received 4,983 Hancock 4,576 and Weaver 781. The Greenback vote was one short of I ihe October vote, and the Republicans scored again of 145.
LECTOR KS on Science, History, Art and practical questions will be given! every Friday evening at the Baptist Chapel beginning with next week. The first lecture by C. R. Henderson, on 'The history of a lump of coal, or local geology." Music will be furnished. Admission free to all. Former friends of this method of popular instruction of adults, are requested to invite young] men and others to attend.
R. W, RIPPETOE moved into his new I quarters, east of Sixth this week, and has now a model store house in size, shape and convenience. He has it stock-1 ed with the finest lot of groceries he has ever ,kept, and has been particularly fortunate in buying much of his stock early in season, when prices were greatly below those now ruling. He is a clever gentleman, an enterprising business man, genial and courteous to his patrons and deserves his success.
REV. E. FRANK HOWE will through the city next week on his way to St. Louis to attend the National Council of Congregational Churches. He has consented to stop here and deliver on Wednesday evening at the First Congregational church a lecture for the benefit of Plymouth Chapel. His subject will bo "Charles Lamb" The an-| nouuccment appears elsewhere. It will be noticed that the lecture will commence at a quarter past eight so as not to ^interfere with the prayer meetings. At the close of the lecture an informal reception will be tendered Mr.t Howe, in the parlors of the churh. This will probably be the only opportunity most of our people will have to see the former pastor of the Congregational church. He will arrive here on Wednesday afternoon and go on to St. Louis that night.
