PEOPLE who neglect fires in their houses at this season of the year will pay thrice the price of coal for cough syrups and doctors' bills. Houses thoroughly dried and warmed morning and evening are a necessity for health in this climate. Fire to the best disinfectant and prophylactic of disease, easy of use and cheap. Build your fires, and raise your windows and make the house in every part pure and healthful. Many make the mistake that fire is only useful to warm the body when cold, or to do the necessary cooking of the family when it is one of the best agents to purify and make impossible every form of xymotio disease known to the pro-

THE PASSING SHOW.
SHOWS AND SHOW FOLKS.
"The Banker's Daughter" was played Wednesday evening to a magnificent audience, completely filling the Opera House. A better drama, or a better company has seldom been brought here. "Our Flirtation" combination came the night following to a fair-sized audience, which was materially decreased before the curtain went down. "Flirtations" is of the picnic school, and about the worst of the lot. Last night "Our Goblins" was given by Mitchell's Pleasure Party to a very respectable audienco, notwithstanding the rain. It is a nonsensical composition, but has many good points, and in the hands of the oxcellent little party composing the the company, gave the liveliest satisfaction.'»
Agnes Robertson (Mrs. Dion Boucicault) supported by a .strong dramatic company, will appear at tho Opera House next Wednesday evening, in the great Irish drama "Arrah-Na-Pogue." Mrs. Bouoicault wss the original "Arrah," and she has by long and careful study made it a great success. Those who have never seen anyone else in this play cannot fully understand the excellency of the rendition. She is a talented woman, with a keen bright wit and great experience, and she brings all her faculties to bear upon her profession el life and work. "Uncle Tom's Cabin" will be played here on the 22d and 23d of this month by Rial fe Draper's company.
Miss Fannie Kellogg, who formerly resided here, will appear in 'concorts with Thomas' orchestra this season.
It is said that Mary Anderson will be two shades handsomer this year than ever before.
It is easier to be an actress tlian to be the husband of an actress. Only a man ttftaofe and genius can successfully play jjpfe part.—Atlanta Constitution. *£he report that Zelda Seguln had left tho Emma Abbott Opera Company is denied. She is only taking a rest, and with her new husband is now at Indian apolis.
James Robinson, the noted circus rid er, has been compelled to quit the ring he is dying of Bright's disease of tho kidneys at Cincinnati. Ho is only thirty years of age. ,, fc* I f«

As mentioned last week, Mr. Emil Bailor, the wholt'iiale and retail dealer in Millinery,, on south Fourth street, made an innovation, this week, in tho time of starting his opening of fall and winter Millinery. Instead of the usual morning hour, he closed his store at two o'clock, in order to complete tho final preparations, and at four o'clock in the afternoon opened the doors. His large salesroom was immediately fhronged with ladies, eager to sec the latest styles. So great was the crowd during the evening that many, unable to gain entrance, had to go away and come the next day. The opening was in every way a success. No lady, no matter how canrlrious her taste, could fail to be suited in the display of pattern bonnets and hats—over one hundred different styles being exhibitad. The large show-cases were filled with novelties in ornaments, fancy feathers, birds, flowers, and all shades of fine plushert. Ladies, if you haven't been in to see the loves of bonnets, drop in early next week.
