Great taste has been shown in tbe interior arrangement, and in tbe display of rich goods with which the new "Marble Palace" has been stored. iTHE PASSING SHOW.
SHOWS AND SHOW PEOPLE,
A more enjoyable eonon was never before given in (his city than that given Tuesday evening by the Mrs, H. M. Smith party.
It is a notable fact that Terre Haute people never turn out largely at tbe first performance here of the best dramatio artists. The greeting of Louise Pomeroy, on Thursday evening, was no exception to tbe rule, and one of tne best dramatio performances of the season was lost to all of our theatre going people with the exoeption of some two hundred, who heartily enjoyed the new drama of the "Adlrondacks," and the superb playing of Louise Pomeroy and W. H. Leake, who were tempestuously called before tbe curtain after the strong scene which closed the seoond act j|
One of the most prominent featuresof tbe Centennial, at Philadelphia, 1876, was the exhibition of tbe Bohemian Glass Blowers, who open at No. 628 Main"street, (Jauriet A Co's old stand) on^Monday, Deo. 16th, and continuing during the week, afternoons and evenings. A splendid model of tbe Ceatennial Corliss Engine, built entirely of glass, and composed of 5,000 pieces, will be in full operation, running by steam in addition to their immense collection of wonders in glass, glass blowing and working, in the manufacture of rare glass ornaments will be shown by Prof.'B Woodroffe, Carllng and company, and all will have an opportunity of obtaining a specimen. All should see it.
Theodore Tilton will deliver his new lecture, entitled "Heart's-Eftee," at the Opera House next Thursday evening. When he appeared here three years ago and.delivered his lecture on "The Problem Life," Tbe Mail said:
From first to last there was a liberal expressisn of approval of the performance, due principally to the excellent manner in which the piece was acted and mounted. The Ice and steamboat scenes were thrlllingly natural, and the closing transformation, wonderfully beautiful, completely surprised the audience and deserved the round of ap-

JEHRB HAUTE SATURDAY EVENING MAIL.
The lecture Itself was ex
quisitely beautifttl, and every tone and every gesture fitted it perfectly. Some of its points were very strong—especially that of moral oourage, his splendid defense ol womanhood, and the glowing tribute paid to Henry Wilson. Its great beauty, however, was its brilliancy of composition. It was most elaborately written, and was the most elegant morsel of classic English we have ever heard. Listening to his magnificent language, his dexterity in antithesis and alliteration, the graceful euphony of every sentence, and the perfect purity and aptness of every word, one can easily forgive the other faults of the orator for the luxurious delight of his golden syllables. And that was really the power which held bis audience in what seemed a blissful trance. Not so much applause was manifested as might have been expected and what there was was fitful and undecided, as if people were not quite certain about its being tbe proper thing to applaud. All in all, "The Problem of Life," is a splendid lecture beautiful, refined, elevating, and one which no cultivated man or woman can well afford to miss bearing.
On Friday and Saturday evenings of next week, with a matinee performance on Saturday, will te given at the Opera House, Uncle Tom's Cabin, by tbe company under the management of Gotthold A Rial, the most superb organization that has yet produced that drama. They have a large band of Jubilee singers, and carry a car load of scenery for the production of startling effects. Speaking of the performance at Nashville, Tennessee, the American says:
it received. A feature that took was the jubilee 'singing, of
which the house could hardly get onough, and continued calling after the singers had responded twice. Little Eva, with her beauty, singing and acting, captivated the audience, Mr. Stockwell, a good comedian, as Lawyer Marks, kept the bouse in a roar, and tbe Topsy of Miss Alberta was almost as amusing.
The Agnes Wallace-Villa Combination comes OD the evenings of the 23rd, 24th, and 25tb, and the big event of the season will be Emma Abbott and the Hess Opera troupe on tbe 80th and 31st.

There is a grate deel uv talk now about Ingersoll and religion, and bell and 'hereafter, but so far as I'm oonserned, I like to see a religion that not only bears on the sinfulness of sin, but on the rascality of lying—a religion that banishes all the small measures from the counters, short weights from the scales, adulterations from the isugar, chicory from the coffee, lard from butter—
that will not put all tbe big potatoes and apples on top and wear along face while In the set. In short, I like to see peepel do business like my man Rippetoe does at the "White Front," which the same is on Mane Btrete, where a body can always rely on getting a full dollar's worth for every dollar invested, and that too of tbe best in tbe market.
