Martin Holllnger and Tilghman Til lotson have formed a partnership in the practice of law.
A party of his friends celebrated the seventieth birthday of Capt. S. H.Potter, Monday evening.
Judge Long has recovered from his illness sufficiently to resume his position on the bench.
Esq. Jaoob Steinmebl, who suoceeds Esq. Clark as justice of the peace, has opened an office in Dr. Long's building.
Samuel S. Early succeeds the late CoL Edwards as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Rose Polytechnic institute.
P. D. Yerrington, of the I. & St. L. R. R., went to Providence, .Rhode Island, this week, called there by the severe ill ness of his son.
Mrs. Luoy K. Utter, daughter of the late John F. King, died last Saturday evening, at her residence, on Chestnut street, after a long illness.
The vote at the St. Benedict's school fair, this week, declared Philip Schloss the most popular councilman. Councilman Scudder ranked next.
Lawrence H. Hudson,trather than go away from home to engage in newspaper work, has taken a position as delivery clerk at the post office.
A number of tier friends gathered at Mrs. Nellie Coltrin's residence, on north Second street, last Saturday evening, and celebrated her sixty-first birthday.
I)r. Van Yalzah, John T. McCoy and J. E. Somes attended the High Court of tbe order of Forresters of the United States and Canadas, at St. Louis, this week.
The Horticultural Society, last Saturday evening, celebrated tbe thirtieth wedding anniversary of Hon. H. D. Scott and wife, ^at their residence. It was a "surprise" affair.
Harry Whipple, formerly of this city, is still at Rutland, Ills., engaged in tbe dry goods trade, and tells us that bis sales last week were over one thousand dollars. Glad to bear of bis prosperity.
Miss Carrie Post, a relative of Mrs. J. R. Wintermute, and once occupying a position in Foster Brothers' store, this city, died in New York, on the 3lst of October. 8be was twenty-five years of age.
Dr. Von Moscbzinker has suggested to a number of capitalists a plan to convert tbe female college property into a medical institute and run into the building the water from the artisian well at the foot of walnut street.
The seven months stay in Ireland of County cjerk Durkan whose coming homo was mentioned in last week's Msil—added to his flesh fifty-seven pounds, and has produced a change in his personal appearance highly gratifying to his many friends.
The mother of Hon. Wm. Mack died at tbe old family home near Hamilton, Ohio, last Monday, at tbe advanced age of eighty-seven years. It is stated that she never took a particle of medicine from a doctor, was never sick, or even complained of physical suffering. It was fitting that a long life of such remarkable health should close suddenly.
