Apathetic little story is thus told by a San Francisco paper in connection with a savings bank failure 'A citizen, who keeps a livery stable, told his little son if be would take care of two cows lor a year he (the father) would give him all the empty sacks at the stable for a year. The boy worked bard night and morning, and at the end of the time his saoks yielded blm $80, and bis silver was in the Dime Savings Bank. He went to bis mother proudly to report progress, bu added: 'If I'd only made f28 more, I'd have just

An English paper gives an account of an interesting experiment with the micro-

private telegraph line with the residence of a gentleman over a mile distant. Every part of the service was distinctly heard at the gentleman's house, with the exception of a few words rendered indistinct by the preacher's becoming a little excited, and shakihg the microphone. So faithfully did the instrument ao its work that the chapel-keeper was heard to clo»e the doors after service, walk up theaiBle and up the pulpit steps in conversation with some one else. The idea is about to be put to practical use, the gentleman already having given instructions that his house should be connected with another in the neighborhood, in order that an invalid may hear the service from one of the churches in the town.

At Bochester, Mich., they have a good way of advertising the fools who stand the church steps after meeting to stare at tbe ladies. The Secret or Bnsineait Snecess. It is claimed that Yanderbilt exhibited great care and shrewd business sagacity in tbe purchase of stocks and rail roads owned by him. Yet, whenever he made an investment he reoeived in return an equivalent either as his own, or as collateral security. Dr. R. Y. Pierce has invested many hundred thousand dollars In advertising, depending entirely upon the superior merits of bis goods for security. The unparalleled popularity of bis family medicines, ana tbe annual increase in their sale, attests in arguments stronger than words of their purity and efficiency. If the blood be impoverished, the liver sluggish, and there be tumors, blotches and pimples, Dr. Pierce's Golden Medloal Discovery will effect a speedy and permanent cure, if tbe bowels be constipated, use Dr. Pieroe's Pleasant Purgative Pellets. Debilitated females suffering with those peculiar dragging down sensations and weaknesses, will find Dr. PijBrce's Favorite Prescription a safe and certain remedy.
