NOW. /r

Now It is hot. ,, Now anmmer is here. Now the ice men are happy. Now we hug the shady side of the street.

Now people are not troubled with cold feet. Now shirt collars are flabby and oory, and wasbingrbills roll and gather mi

Now handkerchief!* are nsed for and the air IS beaten with fans. Now people rise despondently from their dinners and loiter tor an hour's talk.

Now madame and miss seek the couch of their darkened room, and cover their faces to keep off the hungry flies.

Now at eventide diaphanous muslins reveal pretty gleams ol broidery an# insertion.

Now rubber and kid gloves are worn at night, and hands that have defied cosmetics are rendered soft and delicate.

Now eyea beoome languid, pulses are quicker, and flirtations are less noisy and wore dangerous.

Now the weather fiend asks, "is it hot enough for you Now seems easy the fate of those three Hebrews with unpronounceable names who took a disliking to Nebuchadneua a

Now that great monarch sumequeAt experience out at grass, seems whole some and refreshing.

Now the barkeeper is incessantly pounding ice and shaking Now the clerk nods ou the ateol and the solitary customer steals quietly and baahlully into the deserted store.

Now the rivers are low and murky, and the streams dried up into pools, with soft, half dry mud about.

Now the cattle stahd lazily In the shade, with never quiet ears and taila and heads.

Now the pigs, half buried in mud, pant laboriously as If ajbout to faint. Now the horse plods slowly along, bearing hard upon the check rein and fighting vain battles with tt?e flies, 'Now we "take a rest."

At this season of the year there is a sort of madness in the blood of people— a madness that manifests Itself in an ungovernable desire to get out of town. It Is the picnic mania. Through the disordered brain of the picnic maniac there floats discordant virions of green fields, wild flowers, purling streams tumbling in soothing melody over mossy stones, a cheerful robin splitting its little throat with an outburst of song in the trees overhead, and a frisky grey squirrel hanging by bis heels head downwards and barking an indignant protest against the invasion of bis domain, tills is the maniac's delusion. The reality is something like the following: Dust, rain, swoltei-, crush, choke, mosquitoea, ohiggera, ticks, sweat fume, filth, swear, evaporation, draggled and dirt begrimed skirts, soiled pantaloons, disgust, headache, and*a temporary reformation only to relapse at the next temptation, 'J™

COLORADO.

Colorado haaahighandwell-aastalned reputation as a health resort. The pure, dry ^r, of quite a uniform, temperature, Is especially favorable for any disease of the respiratory organs, while the hot or cold soda springs quickly benefit almost any form of rheumatic disease. Colorado has been called theSwitserland of America. Bayard Taylorsays that in all his very extended travels, he never saw grander or more beautiful scenery than that of Colorado. Mr. Durham, of our own city, expresses ths same Ideas. For grand and beaaUfUl scenery, for health-giving air and water, Colorado la unsurpassed.
