State Sunday School Convention
will be held at Indianapolis next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the 25, 26 and 27th inst. finding out. The other morning one of them started for school. His mother saw him saunter out of tbe door whistling, and she whispered to herself, "There goes the best behaved boy in town." At the aoraer the street the small boy's leisurely demeanor suddenly changed, aw) stooping to piok up a brick he shied it artistically at a skurrying cat. In the next square a newly painted door Btep attracted his attention, and be stopped to embellish it with tbe end of a stlek. another small boy was encountered. Words of defiance were exchanged, thero was a souffle, and one small boy passed on with his Jacket torn. But there was a satisfied look on his faoe be bad bloodled the nose of tbe other small boy. Several minutes were pleasantly employed in the next square encouraging a fight between two street dogs, from which he was only diverted by a firstrate opportunity to heok some strawberries from a wagon while the owner was delivering some berries in the rear of the house. Of oourse, our small boy was lust one minute late at school.

REPORTS OF COMMITTEES.

Last Monday evening a meeting waa held for hearing reports of committees. Mayor Wlldy presided, and John Tolbert was secretary.
John Began, of the finance committee, reported the amount of money subscribed, and that more needed.
V. G. Dickhout, of the committee on grounds, made a report in regard to stands, and that the fire works would be displayed at the corner of Main and Second streets.
A letter was received from Hon. Godlove 8. Orth, of Lafayette, accepting the invitation to be one of the speakers.
Gen. White reported that he could get two pieces of artillery, and Capt. Dreusicke stated that he had already an artillery company of thirtv men to, man them.
Dn motion, Mr. Dreusicke was made chairman of the committee on artillery. Means. Hay ward and White reported that the fire works had been ordered.

Arrangements were flsade for having three flags in the procession. Mr. Barbour was authorized to engage the Ringgold band.
Mr. Terry reported in regard to advertising. Mr. Farrington reported that all railroads will give half fare rates and get the people here by 10 o'clock in the morning.
The committee on trades unions reported for the First and Second wards that wagons would be furnished.
Mr. Hugo, chairman of the committee on decoration, read the following: "Gentlemen: I would most respectfully report that the committee on decoration have agreed on the following prizes to be awarded on the coming Fourth of July, subject to your approval or amendments "Manufacturers' display on wagons and in procession, first prize, $20 second prize, $10 third, $5.

"Best decorated business front, to be done at 9 o'clock a. m. and the display to remain until 6 o'clock p. m., first prize, $10: second prize, $5 third, $2.50. "The following gentlemen have been selected to act as judges and award the prizes: On manufacturers' display on wagons, M. C. Rankin, T. J. Gist and Patrick Shannon. On best decorated wagons, Louis Baganz, J. B. Harris and Jesse H. Clutter. On the best decorated business fronts, Frank Smith, William Mack and L. G. Hager. "All wagons competing^ for the above mentioned prizes must be in line on Second street south of Ohio facing north, by half past 10 o'clock a. m., and in the following oi der: All wagons representing the different manufactures to form on Second street south of Ohio, right resting on Ohio street all decorated wagons of any description to form on the left of the wagons representing the manufacturers. "The judges will please report through the chairman the names of the parties to whom the prizes have been awarded by 12 o'clock m. on the Fourth, to Hugo Duenweg, who will issue an order on the treasurer for the prizes so awarded, and who will also cause the names of the successful parties to be announced by the president of the day from the speaker's stand during the afternoon of tne same day. the governor of Indiana, to inform you that he takes great pleasure in granting permission to the First regiment of Illinois National Guards to enter this state on the fourth day of July next, to take part in the celebration of the dav at Terra Haute, and that he has addressed his excellency, the governor of Illinois, accordingly, in reply to his communication of the 10th inst.

In the yssr of 66, Yespasion was sp. pointed by Nero to wage war agsinst the Jews. In a short time hs was mads emperor by the army, and acknowledged by all the nations in ths east. In the year 70 the Romans under the command of Titus, Isld seige to Jerusalem. He devastated tbe city, and destroyed tbe temple, so that "not ono stone was left on another," thus fulfilling the predictions of our Lord and tbe prophets. One million, one hundred thousand persons perished during the seige, and the Jewa were scattered into all nations^ Eighteep centuries later, Owen, Pixley & Co. inaugurated the system of retailing clothing aad gents' furnishing goods st New York Jobbing prices at 804 and 606 Main street, Terra Hauto, saving tbe consumer one big profit. .5
