TUB failure of Daniel Milter, the enter* prising north Fourth street grocer, is announced. Mr. Miller has been confined to his house, seriously 111 for three weeks, and has the sympathy of hundreds of friends in this hour of siokaeas and misfortune.

T^ese lectures will be on the God, Devil, Heaven and Hell of this so called new religion, its pretensions, claims, tricks, oontradictions, materializations and absurdities, showing the whole thing to be earthly, sensual and exceedingly devilish.

TEMPERANCE NOTES:A very large and enthusiastic temperance meeting was held in tbe First Baptist cburcb, last evening. Rev. T. Leslie Weaver presided. A good speech was made by Tyler Maton, of Indianapolis.

There will bo a temperance meeting at the Public Square to-morrow afternoon, at 4:30. Mr. Weaver and others will speak. The noon prayer meeting of tbe Y. M. C. A. has been revived and will be held every day. Strangers are invited to attend.

ERNEST WHITEHOUSH was "surrounded" and captured in this city last Sunday. The story of his capture, and the life bo has led during tbe past year, as told in tbe "Express Extra," issued on Monday morning, is printed on the seventh page. He was arraigned in tbe Crimiual Court on Monday morping, on tbe old indictment of shooting with intent to kill Deputy Cleary, and in answer to the usual questions said.he was guilty of the shooting, but not of the "intent to killthat be was ready for trial at any time, and would defend himself. Hon. Bayless W. Hanna and Charles T. Burton liavo been engaged by Mrs. Yates, tbe mother of Whitnbouse, /or tbe defense, and tbe initial proceedings for bis trial will probably occur next week. It is quite probable that a change of venue will be taken. *.

SINCE the concert of the Oratorio Society takes place upon the evening of Beeoration day, it lias been decided to give, in addition to the work already announced, Whittier's Centennial Hymn, composition written tor tbe Centennial anniversary of American independence, and not inappropriate upon a day devoted to tbe memory of those who fell in maintaining the nation established one hundreds year ago. Tbe Centennial Hymn Is a beautiful, poetical work, and rendered with the music by Paine, expresses the grand emotions which the sense of ur national trials and triumphs calls forth. Those who have heard it will be glad to hear it ag tin, and those who have not will oagerly seize this opportunity.
