The Weather Prophet.

PROF. TIUE TELLS US WHAT KIND OF WEATHER WE ARE TO HAVE THIS YEAR.

Those who have watched the forecasts of the weal her by Prof. Hoe, the past year, have noted that be has been remarkably successful in hip predictions. Below we give hte forecasts for 1878. We suggest that this paper b$ laid away for reference, that his theory may be tested: iU ^ABBRBViATIOSH. t*' r. for raing for falling b. for barometer, and t. for temperature example, f. b. falling barometer r. t. rising temperature, etc. The abbreviations are not to be undersood literally, that is, r. b. and f. t. are not intended to assert that for the two or three days mentioned the barometer will rise and the temperature fall, but that after the preceding phenomena will have culminated in.a rain or wind ftorni a rising "barometer will set in, which generally attains its maximum in less than 24 hours, when it cither will be stationary or recede somewhat, but it will stand comparativelyhigh until a new disturbance with its falling barometer approaches, accompanied with rising temperature and a change of wind. The phenomena attending the falling barometer are likewise not to be taken in their literal sense as applied to localities but only as applied to tlie entire continent. It takes both a high and a lo* barometer, on an average, three days to move across the continent, since the movements are from west to east, hence before the phenomenon of rising barometer has passed olf the continent on the east, a falling barometer has set in on the west, and vice versa. That is the reason why in the forecasts the days overlap, that is, the last day of one series begins the next.

JANUARY.

The coldest or comparatively colder days will bo about 1st, 0th, 13tfi, 10th, 24th^ and 29th. The warmer or comparatively warmer days will be about 5th, 11th, 17th, 22nd and" 28th.—N. 15. Whenever the phenomena forecast have apj)earcd, the next series immediately follow, although ahead of time. Example—Whenever a Htorm center is passed, the wind will set in strong nnd cold from the west or northwest, and r.b.f.t will take place.

EXPOSITION OF 1876. Waiideiing through the United States section ot this truly wonderful exhibition, byperornainented and over displayed as the most of it is, I came upon an elegant glass case, whose modesty was the more conspicuous from its neighbors' finery, surmounted by the motto Dignia Fraemia and displaying, in neat packages, tho medical preparations of the house of Dr. J. C. Aykr&Co., Lowell, Mass.

I was aware of the world-wide repn tation of this eminent firm, for the cbar-acter-and quality of tbeir goods and re member well their agents in London, Messrs. Newberry, in St. Paul's Churchyard. Having a leisure hour, I determined to examine tho contents of this case myself, and I was surprised to see the delicate perfection to which they have brought their household remedies. I was chagrined at the reflection that, while we have at home the most skillful and, pre-emineutly, the best physicians in the world, these Yankee Doctors dis tanco us so far in the line of popular medicines for family use.
