OUR doctors have been "taken in and dnnefor"to the tune of seven dollars each, by a smooth tongued stranger, who proposed to print a physician's black list," embracing the names of people who take their physic and neglect to pay. The msn left some blanks to be filled, took the money, an Ideparted for pastures new. We did not sup pose our doctors were so "green" as to afford bim pasturage here.
AT Pence's Hall one night this week, a iady in an investigating party from New York, expressed a desire Jo see a nude man, in the spirit form, of course. She said she conld look upon it as a statue, and with tbi« view it would not be improper and as Mrs. Stewart tbe medium, is a woman, it would be a good proof that she was not personating the spirit forms that were appearing. We have the testimony of those present that a male form did appear— (whether in the spirit or the flesh it is not us to say) without even a fig leaf in the way of clothing.
Tpus Spiritualists, at the suggestion of Mrs. Stewart, have established a da guerrsan gallery in the Pence building, employed an artist to prepare the plates and are experimenting in tbe production of spirit pictures. Certain, it is that additional figures do appear in some way upon the plates, besides that of the sitter Yesterday afternoon Samuel Connor sat and over and apparently in front of him appeared tho form of a woman James Hook also had a sitting, and instead of his face appearing a form that he recognized as that of his daughter, in the spirit world, came upon the plate. At another time, with the camera covered and no one sitting, the face of one tbey claim as the leader of Mrs. Stewart's band of spirits was destlnctly printed upon tbe plate. The spiritualists are highly elated over this new development.
THE month of May is the pleasiintest in the whole year. It is at this season of the year that women are seized with a mania called house-cleaning. When you go h»mo in the evening, to enjoy rest after the day's toil, you find the stoves all down, the carpets up, the floors w«t, tho children looking as though they had become apprentices to ckimney-sweepers, and your wife with a towel tied around her head, her nose red with cold, fitting on a pile of household ruins, #id her temper as sweet as that of a tiger which hasn't had it's dinner. You ask for supper. She says something apologetic, of course. Something about men never thinking how their poor wives have to slave from morning till night. You venture to remark that you oan't see the necessity of this particular slaving, and that supper is A meal which digests bestwithout since. Then she bursts into tears, informs you that you area brute, takes up the youngest child in her arms, hugs it, and tells it that it won't evdr be croa* and mean and tyrannical to its poor, over worked, wretched mamma. Of course, the youngster begins to howl without knowing why, and aU tho others join in tbe chorus. The thing becomes so intensely pleasant, that you begin to think its too much happiness for one man to enjoy and live, and you take your umbrella, and hie away to other scenes. Ohl May is a pleasant month—for paper hangers, painters, whltewashers, and such, but somehow the family mau does not seern to be recklessly fond of it,
