The city council at its last regular meeting, resolved to extend the time for paying taxes without penalty to (but not including) the let of May but as the state law fixes the ime when the penalty shall attach, the resolution conies in conflict therewith, and is. therefore, inoperative. But I have been instructed by a majority of the members of the council to say to those who have not yet paid, that at their next meeting (hey will order a remission of penalties on all taxes paid before May 1st, next. Tax payers are therefore hereby no'itied that if their taxes are paid befoiv that date tltt penalty will be avoided.
