A PAPER FOR THE PEOPLE.
Shows and Show Folks.
THBjBoston Philharmonic club, an organization ranking with the Mendelsshon Club, will give a concert at the Opera House, next Wednesday evening. The editor of the Watham Sentinel attended one of their concerts recently, and in the next issue of the paper "gushed" as follows: "A pen of silver dipped in moltfen gold would be necessary to describe the music of the Boston Philharmonic Club. The entertainment might be called an evening in dreamland, for the soft sighing of the music and the wild rising and swelling of the passionate parts could not fail to find a place in the heart and mind of every person present. The music abounded in wild cadences and weiid melodies, and it seemed as if Para lis" had fallen in the hall."
The club Is noted for it* solo performers. As a violin soloist, Mr, Barnard Listemann, it is said has no equal in America, Mr. FritzListemann, formerly with the Thomas orchestra, is also with the club, and Mr. Hartdagen, the ideal violonoellist Eugene Weiner on the Flute, was for five years flute soloist in Thomas' orchestra, Adolph Belz on the French Horn, and Alex Freygang on harp. The last named has been for ten years solo harpist in the Imperial orchestra of St. Petersburg, Russia, and is acknowledged throughout Europe to be one of the greatest harp virtuosos in the world. The harp he will use here is one of the very best, costing 1800 rubles, Miss Dora Wiley, a young soprano, who comes with high endorsement, is with the company, making altogether a combination of musical talent seldom brought together in this country.
The sale of seats will begin at W. H. Paige A Co's on Monday, and Bhe price has been fixed at the low figure of fifty cents to all parts of the house, with no extra charge for reserved seats.
The Buffalo Bill combination which it will be remembered, caused our Opera House to overflew with people on the occasion of the last visit here, will retarn next week, Friday and Saturday evenings, with an entire new plaj^ bearing the blood-ourdling title of "The Red Right Hand or, Buflalo Bill'-s First Scalp for Custer." Buffalo Bill has had some real fighting since be was last here, and this new drama is said to be based upon some of his recent experiences.. The usual low prices will prevail and seats can be secured four days in advance at Button A Hamilton's.
Haverly minstrels are coming on tho 6th of April—one week from next Thursday.
Lawrence Barrett is booked for the next evening. The New York Mercury ssts down John K. Owens, for this city, the 7th.
