Professor Uarvin, of the Commercial College, was yesterday presented with an elegant gold watch bearing on tbe inner case tbis inscription: "Presented to R. Uarvin by students of Commercial College, class of 1876." A gold-beaded cane was also presented to Prof. MHI*r, as a token of the esteem in which he is held by the students. The college is to remain closed until after tbe holidays.
A VERY remarkable meteor passed over the city a quarter before nine o'clock Thursday evening. It made its appearance near the southwestern horizon and passed slowly tbrongh the sky aud out of sight in tbe northeast. It seemed to be composed of a hundred or more small globes of every imaginable color and dazzling brilliancy. Inatead describing the arc of a circle in its parage, it seemed to move deliberately in a horisontal path and was evidently qnlto close to t!-ie earth. It was seen at Kansas City, St. Louis, Indianapolis and ether points, as we learn by telegraph.
