A DOMINATION KOB JFOUBTB WA BD CO UNCI At A N. The death or Col. Thomas Dowling on used a vacancy In the City council wfciebeveiy cltlsen of Torre Hsnte Is personally interested in wdog fittingly filled. The selection of a proper successor of the deceased member Is a question net confined to the Fonrth Ward, but which appeals directly to that sense of "the eternal fitness ot things" which all cltlsens share In common. The voters of that ward owe It to themselves and the memory of the lamented Dowling to fill the place with their beet man. We have suggestion to make as to the proper person, which we shall continue to urge as long as there is hope that it will be heeded. There isone msnin tbe Fourth ward who deserves and posses see tbe respect and confidence of his follow citisens in an eminent degree. He is an old and most worthy citizen a man of intelligent and decided views, and a character which, publioor private, is absolutely lrreproachablo. He is a man of good business qualifications, possesses a large property and is a laboring man. If elected to tbe council4— which he would moat certainly be if nominated—he would do aa much as any man in It to protect the city's Inter est atfd hold things level. There would be no nonsense or mismanagement of publio affairs where he had a voice. Hi* nomination would strike tbe public so favorably that we do not be lleve any. other party would have tb»audacity to put up a candidate In op position to him. He hna never held an offl-e or dfsired one, and miuht feel reluctance toward doing so in this cane but there are times when goad citizens are called upon to make sacrifices for the good ef the community in whl«. they live, and the present is such an oe msion. The Mail has the honor of nomina'ing Samuel Merry as a ci lw»ns can didstn for Councilman from the Fourth Ward.
THE HANDSOMK POLL 'j*' Which Mr. Fechheimer. of the Cen Store, proposes to giveaway New Years is attracting much attention. It is thiec lectin bight, is eleganty dressed, and about the nost magnificent specimen of the Doll family overseen in these part?. Miss Mary Dearbron was given the irrportant work of dressing her dollship, and the task has beon accomplished in a highly creditable manner. Eveiy person buying 50 cents worth of goods at the Cent Store is given a chance in the drawing. It is a piece of enterprise which tbe proprietor doubtless finds as popular as it is profitable. Every little miss in town is intensely Interested— and some of the big misses also.
